Writing Korean for Beginners (Alive Korean Language Series)
I really like this book. Realized pretty quickly that it is to be used in a classroom setting, so I know that I am not getting all that it is designed to do. However, since I have taken a beginners course in the Korean language already, I am able to utilize the book as a review and as an enhancement. It has helped me to write sentences and understand sentence structure better. I love the fact that I can go at my own pace and review, review, and review as needed. This works well for me, being that I am an older person that is a beginner learner. The design of the book is great, very easy to follow, love the picture illustrations and sample sentences. LOVE being able to write directly in the book next to the examples. This makes it easier to formulate sentences. You should already have a basic understanding of proper pronunciation because this book is not designed to help you in that area, probably would get that in a classroom setting. Hence, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It would be great if a CD was included.

Surprisingly good for self-learning
I shouldn't be surprised, after all, this series of books was developed by the official Korean language research institute in Korea. It does not state explicitly that it was developed for self-learning but it does have a 'Self Assessment' section, so, it certainly seems to be for self-learning. And I can attest to the effectiveness of the lessons, they are clear and unambiguous, what a beginning learner needs. The structure of the chapters is no different from most of the other books from various university books, but it is bolstered by additional explanations for each vocabulary, grammar, practices, and tasks. Also, unlike the university program books of old, this book is more colorful. This book is part of a series of 4 books. They are all at the beginner level, but they focus on various skills (Writing, Reading, Speaking, and Listening). I would imagine, by tackling all four books, the student would have mastered Level 1 (of 6), maybe better than a whole semester of a college course.

Good book for reviewing and practicing
I'm at the intermediate level, and have found this book helpful for review and practicing writing and thinking in Korean, but it's probably not the best starting point for a true beginner or a person self-studying. The hangul typeface is large and easy to read, and there is no romanization, reinforcing the hangul. A CD of the exercises would be a nice addition in the future, since hearing the words as you read or write will strengthen your language skills even more.

So far so good.
I've just started working on "Writing Korean for Beginners", but so far so good. I find that writing the words out help me to remember the vocabulary and visualize the words. I like the fact that each unit is well organized with objectives and a check list. This book makes learning Korean a pleasure and it allows me to move ahead a few steps at a time. I like it so much, I ordered a second one for my wife.

The Best Korean Resource I've Found By Far!
Having regular lessons with a native South Korean tutor and working through this book has been brilliant.I think using this series of books you really need to start with this one. It teaches the basics of hangul (the Korean alphabet) and lots of vocabulary.Everything is well laid out and clearly explained. I genuinely have a great foundation to move on to the other books in the series for speaking, listening and reading.Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn Korean and one of the things I enjoyed most about this book is the distinct lack of romanisation throughout the exercises which has helped my Korean massively! Every other resource I've tried has romanisation of every word written in Korean which simply draws a native English speakers eye to it so you end up mispronouncing and not actually reading the hangul.Fantastic book, can't wait to work through the others.

Early arrival in good condition.
Arrived much earlier from the UK than I thought possible. Book well laid out . Part of a series of reading, writing and listening to Korea. The set is quite comprehensive.
