Q: Is the screen glossy or matte?

The monitor is quite matte. Very little reflection. This works well if you have a light behind you (like a window); however, there may be some slight cost of sharpness vs a glossy screen.

Comes with a power cable of course, a DVI cable, and a VGA cable.

Q: does this monitor have built in speakers

YES IT DOES. Don't listen to the other people. It is not advertised for some reason and I only discovered them 3 months now after purchasing and using the monitor. On windows, going to control panel, and then click sound. You should have an listing that has a monitor for an icon. That's the monitor! Just right click it and set it as default if you want. Also note that you must be using a cable that transmits audio as well as video, so the most common will be HDMI.Here is the manufacturer's page: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/UM.FS1AA.001 Click on "See full datasheet" and scroll down to Audio > Speakers and it says that there definitely ARE speakers.
