They sound amazeballs!
Did a lot of research for an AV receiver and speakers to match my new Vizio P series smart TV. I was going to go with the Klipsch Reference Black 5.1 set up and then I stumbled across these. I had already set my sights on this Pioneer receiver so why not go all the way Pioneer. I had a Pioneer cassette deck with TriAxial 6x9” speakers in the rear and 5” coaxials in the doors of my Opel in 1973. And a quadraphonic system. They rocked. These will blow the windows out. Watching The Fifth Element at about 60% scares the bejeesus out of you. My classic rock collection sounds amazing too. ZZ Top sounds like they’re standing in your living room jamming. Close your eyes and be transported to another dimension. They are heavy, solid, well made. Some reviews knock the aesthetics but personally I like low key non flashy look. I used the 16 gauge wire from KableDirekt and the Small VideoSecu speaker stands for the rear speakers. Very happy.

Great Speakers
Excellent speakers for the price. A bit on the larger side but we get compliments on the stylistic look of these. Matched these speakers with the Sony Str Dn1080 receiver and the sound is great!

This is a great speaker set up
This is a great speaker set up. I use the system for movies, games, music, and television. The bass has an awesome rumble and the center speaker will shine (especially in situations like watching Lord of the Rings, etc with the crazy dialogue sound adjustments with lower speech levels). For video games it will make everything sound better, particularly with action oriented games. I used this system with several games and it didn't disappoint. It sounds really good with music as well (classical, jazz, rock, pop). Its open and airy, but also still has a good bass thump. I did have a slightly issue with the subwoofer overheating, but it seemed to resolve itself (so I would and do unplug it in between long uses).

The Reference for Affordable Speakers.
I don't normally just list Pros and Cons but I'm a bit short of time today so I'm going to summarize my feelings about these excellent speakers which I can't recommend enough to anyone looking to get 'serious' about sound. These speakers are proof that you don't need to break the bank for high quality loudspeakers.Pros:>Truly musical and versatile loudspeakers to meet any listening need/preference.>Dynamic and detailed home theater sound reproduction.>Smooth, wide dispersion of high frequencies.>Impressive bass extension.>Exceptional value for money.>Timbre matched for seamless pans.>Works with modestly powered receivers.>Front towers are actually quite compact and fit easily into any space.>Curved cabinets adds a touch of class and makes positioning Center channel a snap.Cons: (these feel like nitpicking due to the ridiculously low price but...)>You can get any color you want as long as it's black.>Ash veneer is a bit cheap looking and easily marred at edges.>Besides Center channel there are no feet for Bookshelves or carpet spikes for Towers provided.>Center and Bookshelves may need more shelf space than you have available.>Bookshelves are not wall mountable.>6 ohm load requires at least a decently robust receiver.Setup:I have these complimenting a Panasonic VT60 plasma in my basement 'media room'. The back of the room opens up into the remainder of the basement. These replaced a set of Cambridge SoundWorks MovieWorks I bought back in the Dolby Pro-Logic days. The Towers are pulled two feet into the room and spaced closer together than my old CSW mains, toed in slightly. The Center was too large to fit on the top shelf of my TV stand where my old CSW speaker sat so I had to place it lower than I'd normally recommend. Thanks to the curved cabinet and 'feet' provided with the Center it was an easy task to point the center up towards the listeners. The bookshelves are not wall-mountable so you'll need to spend a bit more time placing them. Coming from Dipole rears I found these a bit too direct when placed alongside the listening position. I ended up pushing these behind the listening position a bit (but still within the 110* recommendation) and now they sound great. I have 4" thick acoustic panels at first reflection points alongside the left and right walls and one in the rear corner of the room acting as a bass trap.Currently I have an Onkyo 509 receiver powering these-- rated 80w/ch into 8 ohms but is actually closer to 50w/ch. I expected to have to upgrade my receiver as the power output is modest at-best and the sensitivity rating on these Pioneers is on the low side. Imagine my surprise when my Onkyo had no trouble driving these to near ear-bleeding levels with zero distortion! A new receiver with a more robust power supply is still in my plans but I've decided to wait until the holiday to hopefully catch a deal. The Audyssey setup on my receiver correctly identified all 5 speakers as 'small' and set the crossover point to 60Hz. I raised the crossover to 80Hz but otherwise let EQ do it's thing. I do run Onkyo's 'Cinema Filter' feature to help quell overly bright soundtracks. I'm running two Acoustic Research PSW108 subs in opposite corners at the front of the room (I would highly recommend two subwoofers for smoother bass response throughout the room and ease of placement).Bottom line:To use a well-worn descriptor for budget speakers: these really do vastly outperform their price. While I always loved my legacy CSW speakers these are a clear upgrade and for a fraction of what I spent on those way back when! I now have sound reproduction that can match the astonishingly cinematic performance of the Panasonic VT60 plasma these flank. When considering the price I paid (nowhere near the lowest they've been in the last year, by the way) I'm astounded. You can certainly buy better speakers but you simply can't match the acoustic performance at this (or a significantly higher) price point. The price of this set has it aimed squarely at the sub/sat and HT-in-a-box crowd and it simply blows away anything and everything offered in that category. I'd highly recommend anyone looking at one of these systems or even someone shopping a 'soundbar' to consider finding the space for these-- especially if you're looking for something that can serve double-duty as a quality music system. You'll be glad you did.
