The only reasonable solution to a problem that shouldn't exist in the current year.
I really didn't want to go down the ModMic route, but unfortunately there's not many alternatives solutions. For context, I have a pair of Arya Stealth headphones, and was using a Meze Boom Mic. This worked well for the most part, but the mic often got in the way, and there was a little crosstalk or sound leakage being picked up by the mic (not sure which, but annoying for other people nonetheless). Looking into alternatives, the options were basically a ModMic, or expensive clip-on mics, and obviously I went with the ModMic.Firstly build quality. It's simply a USB mic with a magnet and sticky tab, so there's not really much to describe. The magnet is quite strong, so I was a little concerned having it near the headphone driver, but I've not noticed any adverse effects. The mic arm is held in place by a plastic cap screwed onto a plastic vice which feels a little cheap, so I'm a little concerned about it surviving long term. In theory you won't need to mess about with it more than once or twice though, so it should be okay. There's 5 little plastic clips to attach the ModMic to your headphone cable, which are a little finnicky to get on, but do the job.Regarding the magnetic attachment, it has 4 grooves, so you can basically have it forward or up. This works surprisingly well, but can get caught on the headphones. The magnet gives it a little flexibility, so hopefully this doesn't slowly peel peel away the sticky tab.Audio is decent for a USB mic, and fairly sensitive so you don't need to worry about having it inside your mouth. The boom arm is quite stiff though, so I'd suggest looking in the mirror to help line it up with your mouth rather than try bending it in place. The mic is unidirectional, so won't pickup much background noise, but definitely needs some proper noise cancelling (Discord for example has this built in).If you're wondering whether to go for this or the 3.5mm version, I would recommend this - comparisons on YouTube show this version has better audio quality. The only reason you'd go for the 3.5mm version is if your device doesn't have USB ports. It also has a little mute button that's fairly clicky and lights up when it's muted, which is nice.Overall then, an expensive solution to a frustratingly simple problem. It does what it does well at least.

Great sound quality and ease of use
I bought this after my wireless version broke and I certainly won't look back, the quality is very good and using it is very easy and in most cases easier than the wireless version, you can just leave it plugged in somewhere near your desk and whenever you need it attach it easily, no pairing, no "oh damn I forgot to fully charge".It's really such a easy to use and solid product that I don't think I could ever suggest someone buying a headset with inbuilt mic

Works great with my DT 990 Pros
Didn’t want to use a standalone mic and boom arm because I’m not a wannabe streamer.Sound is very impressive and set up is easy. Just plug and play. I’d recommend using a mirror to help you figure out where on the headset to place the magnetic puck.I’m using mine with a DT990 pro connected to a Fosi Dac q4. I’ve routed the cable down the coiled cable of the headset and connected to a usb extension cable as my pc is Further than 2 meters away.If you want wireless wait for the modmic wireless 2 coming out 2025.

Doesn't sound like ANY of the youtube videos demonstrate
25/6/25I've spent a total of around 6 hours trying to get this to sound as good as what people show on youtube and they all say it's plug and play but it's clearly not as if you have no filters set on OBS Studio then you get all background noises coming through and it generally sounds bad like the S's and F's are really too much. Also breathing is a thing, so when I have the mic at anywhere from 1-4 inches away from my mouth you can hear me breathing and it's not really nice to hear yourself take a massive breath after every few words. I will be buying a different mic and mic arm because this is really bad. There is also too much bass so it makes my voice sound bassey and hard to hear in recordings, like I sound very nassely. I will be trying some equaliser things on a page that I found from Antlion to lower tye bass but I really didn't expect to be having to mess around with all this when every youtube video I watched they said they didn't change any setting which is a total lie!Long story short I will probably be returning and getting something better as it's not 100% good but it is better in a way then a regular headset mic just be prepared to have to mess around with settings and filters and equaliser stuff (my voice is in the high pitch range just so people know, if you have a fairly high pitch voice this is not gonna be a good choice for you)26/6/25Update;I've used an entire day of testing and luckily had a friend help me out with settings and we've got it to a point where it is almost perfect, it only sometimes picks up my AC unit.I will still be getting the other mic and probably keeping this as a spare as it does sound really good despite picking up the AC noise. Updated to 4 stars as this mic sounds miles better than my headset mic but it's a shame that all youtube videos tell you porkie pies and you have to go through so much setup

Big improvement over Gen 1
Yea sounds great, better than 99% of headset mic's out there and so it should for £90 but happy to recommend. Get the USB version for faff free, just works.

Consistent, high quality product
As always, a quality product. If you want a headset based mic but you don't want it always to be attached, and you want superb high quality audio, then you can't do any better than a Modmic.
