Awl's Great
Needed the awl for making holes in material to fit a crochet hook through. It is extremely sharp and saved me a lot of elbow grease. Perfect for my needs. I really liked the round wooden handle that made it easier on my hand and worked great.

wood handle, metal tip not very sharp
The sharpness was not sharp enough to punch a hole in wood cabinetry such as to replace a power drill. But it was useful to pry out stuck-in things in a narrow space, like a tube applicator clogged with silicone, or a tight-fitting spare drill bit on the side of a driil handle or in a toolbox. Also, marking a spot on wood or a line to cut wood might be useful. It saved a $5 hair-clog filter on my bathtub shower by punching the center hole to increase the size of the screw hole needed to attach it on top of the regular drain stop. In other words, its usefullness depends on specific needs for ARTISTIC purposes in woodworking, and not as a construction tool.
