Case damaged but otherwise no complaints!
A lovely title from Makoto Shinkai. The reversible cover is a nice touch. My only complaint is that it arrived wrapped but rattling. The disc holder is broken so there's nothing keeping the disc secure. Luckily bluray discs have an anti scratch coating and it has yet to suffer any so the disc is fine.Other then that a quality product for Makoto Shinkai fans!

Not a favourite
This film didn't engage me as much as the many other Jpanese films I've seen and the extra short film may be an old classic or something but I doubt I'd ever watch it again.

Two beautiful movies
This is a fantastic set - especially as Voices of a Distant Star is fairly hard to come by, beautiful presented and animated this should be required watching for any anime fan, especially if you have seen the recent 'Your Name'.Place Promised in Our Early DaysThis is a long, interesting film set in a parallel world where north and south Japan were created at the end of WW2 (think like Korea) and about the steady drive to war focusing on three protagonists. The film is stunning beautiful and thoughtful but...its not quite there. The story gets confused between the large conflict driven story and the character driven story and the long running length is a hindrance rather then a help. Its still a great movie mind, just requires maybe a second watch to take it all in.Voices of a Distant StarA perfect 20(ish) minute movie. Originally entirely made by the director on his own PC with generic PC kit and him and his wife doing all the voices this is simply amazing. I maintain this is one of the finest short films (especially in the SciFi sector) ever made and brought this set to have this on blue ray. Enjoy it, its special.

Bought it for VOAD, but enjoyed the movie...
Although I bought this to watch "Voices of a Distan Star" (I already downloaded it but wanted a fresh crisp copy while also supporting the creator.. to vote with my dollars and say "I want more stuff like this!"I just love the idea of any scifi that incorporates the effects of time-dilation in some form. As for 'That Place Promised in Our Early Days', I also enjoyed it very much. Both movies are skillfully and artfully directed.I'm glad this was a doble-feature because I got a better value fo the money spent.

Good bang for your buck
If you have a player / software that can play the region this Blu-Ray is from, then have at it. This is the more economical way to purchase Makoto Shinkai's The Place That Was Promised in Our Early Days and Voices of a Distant Star. Note that Voices of the Distant Star is not widescreen, but letterbox format (which may be the original format) It is not HD either. "The Place" is in HD though. The Blu-ray case is a bit thicker than the ones I'm used to in North America. There aren't any inserts of booklets, just a disc and the case. With a nice reversible liner with the two movie posters on it.The movies themselves are quite good. Makoto Shinkai writes and directs, and always does a good job getting some relationship challenges/dialogue with some depth mixed into the sci-fi stories. These aren't his best, but they are definitely impressive for someone on a relatively low budget. I love how beautiful the animation and landscapes are.

Region B
This Blu ray is Region B and won't play on North American devices. This should not be advertised here, I've wasted my money.

Great films but mind the the region lock
I wanted to first caution the buyer if this is being purchased in the US. This is a region B Blu-ray which means it will most likely not play in your player. It wouldn’t play in anything I have, PS3, PS4, PS5, or dedicated blu-ray player. I’m forced to play this on my computer with region free software. The experience is pretty horrible to say the least and since this was sold on Amazon in the US, I feel it only right that you are aware of this before making the purchase as this isn’t cheap either. I’ve taken a star off due to this lack of information on the product listing. The movies themselves are great and the artwork is amazing. I wanted these movies in my collection and having them in this beautiful detail is worth holding onto them even if I can only watch them on my computer. The special features are great too, you even get The Girl and Her Cat, it is practically a triple feature.

Not happy.
Product arrived damaged like it had met it's untimely fate with both a box cutter and a hammer. It doesn't help that it's incompatible with my bluray player. Region locked blurays is a garbage tactic and only serves to piss people off.
