Perfect housewarming gift.
My grandson is starting a life out on his own. He fancies himself a good cook. I wanted him to have a quality starter set of knives. He used them once and said grandma you've set the bar with Global. He loved everything about them especially the weight and one piece forged design.

i love these knives!
they're great! i love them, i actually like cooking that much more because my knives are so cool and easy to use! i read the reviews of people who didn't know how to sharpen knives and how they're are expensive for them to maintain. however, my father was in special forces and taught me at a young age how to put an edge on a piece of steel, also i youtube'd the Japanese blade sharpening techniques and it's really not that difficult, so i have no problem with maintaining a razor sharp edge on them. the cooks knife i use exclusively and have only had to put it to the whetstone once in 4 months, and i probably didn't even have to but thought it couldn't hurt so did anyways. the utility and pairing knives i let the whole family use and they do not care for them as they should, they let them bounce around in the sink and or put them in the dishwasher. they get used on the granite counter tops etc. so i find myself working on them almost every 2 weeks, the steel is very hard so it does take some work sometimes to get them back where they were. especially when the 13 year old decides to use them to cut wire ties and other things that do not consist of fiber or protein, which is why they don't touch my chefs knife! but all in all i love them! great knives! nobody does steel like the Japanese!

If I Could Hug These Knives, I Would...But They're too Sharp
After taking a knife skills class at a local restaurant, I realized just how much in the dark ages of knives I was living. My Buy-One-Get-One free set of knives I purchased in college just wasn't cutting it anymore (pun intended). The professional chef had a Global knife for us to use and it was like cutting through melted butter. The knives simply fell through all types of vegetables, meats, fish, and everything else we had to cut up. They are extremely light weight, which some may not like at first as they don't have the feel of a heavy-duty knife. But just a few cuts with these knives and you'll see just how strong and easy-to-use they are.I purchased this knife set about four months ago and haven't looked back. I use them for everything and they are exactly what I needed. I cook about two or three times a week so I don't use them every day, and I take good care of them, washing them immediately and drying them, so they have remained very sharp and still look just like they did the day I got them. You can't sharpen them like typical knives as they have a different shaped blade, so don't ruin them. I can't say enough positive things about these knives, I am definitely a Global Fan for Life!

Great knives. Global had everything I wanted in a knife.
I wanted my knives to have the following characteristics: 1. sharp 2. Lightweight 3. Thin blade. 4. The feel it will last forever. They are most definately sharp. Very light weight. Thinner blade compared to some German knives. I also got the feeling they would last forever due to the handle being metal too. Other knives you may have to worry about the rivets or deteriorating wood handles.Handles: I bought these online based on reviews and the pictures here on Amazon. In the pictures I thought the black dots may have been some kind of rubber for grip. I wasn't too keen of the thought of potentially having little pieces of rubber glued to the knife. I ordered this set anyway and was pleasantly surprised that the dots are just colored dimples like a golf ball.Utility knife grip: Looking at the picture of the utility knife I was worried about the grip because the handle looks a little different. I immediately washed this knife upon receiving it and used it to chop up some veggies. I found it very comfortable to use. No concerns with the grip at all.My set was out of the box sharp and I was chopping things up effortlessly. There really is a "wow" factor if you've only experienced cheap knives from your local *mart stores.
