Q: what are the proper dimensions/sizes for the rubber gaskets and o-rings?

The rubber gasket is for the older design fittings and is available from Amazon: Nelson 50339 Hose Quick Connector Washer Set. The newer design uses an o-ring for the seal along with a regular hose washer. A good replacement o-ring is a 70 durometer Buna-N with 16mm ID x 20mm OD. I bought 10 off eBay for $3.89 and they work much better than the original. Use a little silicone grease at first. My original o-rings lasted a week ... these replacements were used daily all summer and are still OK.

Q: Are either the male or female ends compatible with the old 109C model?

The male half is dimensionally the same for the new and old part. The only difference I can see is the knurled section is smaller on the new male halves.I used a new female end with an old male end this winter. It worked for a while but the o-ring failed and it didn't just drip, it was a mess.

Q: When disconnected, does the female half shut off flow?

No. These are not flow-control devices, only connectors. The pressure needs to be shut off first... I don't think it will disconnect if pressure exists.FWIW, after getting used to these connectors I am never going back to using the thread-on thread-off attachments.

Q: Do male or female sides rotate independently for easy connect?

Yes they do! Best quick disconnect that I have found! Tighten each side to your hose or hose bib and snap them together. Fantastic!
