A History of Chinese Civilization (folio Society 2 Vol. Box set)

Sorry, haven't had a chance to read it yet. I am still working on my library collection. What I can say is that the books came quickly and in excellent condition. Folio Society makes quality books that are reasonably priced.

While it is impossible to fit a complete history of china into one book, there are few points worth mentioning to certain readers.I have read up to the Han period with this book and found it to stay limited in scope to archeological evidence only about the civilization. The book does a great job of sticking to a general form on the history of the Chinese civilization (per its title). But so far, I have found little more than what I would have found in a World History Text Book.The book provides little mention of the events that occurred in China (outside of this group rivaled and defeated this group) and only mentions in passing the major historical figures.Regrettably, I was majorly disappointed with the lack of event by event (even mythical if necessary) description of Bronze Age and early Iron Age China.But it is a first rate work on the history of the civilization and how it developed per archeological evidence.
