ExtechMO210 Pocket Size Moisture Meter with 2-in-1 Digital LCD Readout and Analog Bargraph

I have owned this unit about 2 months. It has worked very well for me. I read all the reviews and the only complaint was it did not hold the reading when removed from the wood. That would be nice but that costs a lot more! I can work around that. My friend is so impressed with my 210 I have ordered one for him.

Works fine and it came with extra pins. That's great because they can break or bend if you happen to drop it.

WOW, I am stunned by the ridiculous design of this toy! you cannot push the pins into wood without the flip-out probes un-locking and snapping back in and stabbing YOU!Who designed this piece of junk!Most of the time the readings are all over the map, no consistent reading on anything! Moisture scale is "Relative" which means GOOD LUCK trying to figure out what the heck the actual moisture content is without the full instructions with you!

I use this to check for moisture behind drywall and below flooring, around sinks and plumbing. So far it's given me accurate readings for my requirements. Not being a wood worker I couldn't say if it's suited for that.

I purchased this meter after my 4 year old son clogged the upstairs bathroom sink by shoving a crayon into the spillover drain and left the water running. The result was a small waterfall from the chandelier in the kitchen and widespread panic.With this unit, I was able to trace the path of the water and open up only the areas I needed to let things dry out. Having a moisture meter saved me a lot of $$$ in remediation costs and this one did the job.The meter seemed to be accurate from my observations. However, I performed some baseline tests in different rooms to see the variations in moisture before jumping to conclusions about the readings. I recommend doing this. However, as other reviewers have stated, the meter only reads while the two sharp prongs are stuck in the wall, but that wasn't a problem for me.The biggest downside is that you need to poke new holes in your walls every time you use the device. but these are easily filled in with a little spackle or joint compound. More advanced meters that do not require puncturing the wet material cost much more.I am glad I purchased this and like having it in my toolbox. Just in case.

It gives me a wide range of wood species to select from. It comes with several replacement probes. It's easy to read, the LCD screen is an ample size.

I liked this simple, effective tool a lot until the battery charge/calibration test unit fell out of the cap. That made me inspect it to see what failed. Upon doing that I discovered how flimsily it was held in place...apparently with only a small drop of glue to secure a plastic post to the cap. I will, of course, glue it back together, but for a company that specializes in sophisticated testing devices it seems like they could have tested this unit a bit more before sending it out into the field. Electronic sophistication is great, but pay attention to the nuts and bolts as well.

ok but if you need to measure a floor your upside down trying to see the scale , you cannot hold the measurement

Robust pocket device. Does the job intended. Worth downloading info from the web to help with interpreting results if you dont have experience with such devices.
