It's like a typical music box. The more you wind it, the longer it plays, but you max out at like a minute.

Does this come in a box for just wrapped plastic?

It was in plastic, but in a box. Ours broke in one day though, so we returned it. It was adorable. If you order it, I hope yours doesn't break quickly like ours did.
