Be prepared to run a new exhaust vent lin
We bought this unit to replace a 40 gallon tank heater that serviced only our master bathroom (what a waste). The cost of this unit is approximately the same as a new 40 gallon gas tank heater, but I expect it to last longer (with proper flushing/maintenance) and to save on gas.Do be prepared to run a new exhaust vent line just for this tankless heater. It must not be Tee'd in with an existing vent for a furnace, etc. If replacing a tanked heater that had its own vent (not shared with a furnace), you should be fine re-using that vent.Noise: In our installation we can hear the unit running (low humming). It's noticeable but not annoying. I think it's because I mounted it in a utility closet on 2 1x4 boards screwed directly to the sheetrock wall just on the other side of the wall from the shower. Had I mounted the heater on an adjacent wall or with some kind of isolation mount, I suspect we wouldn't hear it all.Do read their manual carefully and, if you read the FAQs at their website, do understand that the info in the Ultra HE manual overrides all else. It is not exactly like their previous products and their FAQs don't completely apply to this model. It's been working fine for a month and I suspect its capacity is a bit of overkill for just our master bath. Our house has another 40 gallon tank heater for the rest of the house and when it goes, I think I'll replace it with another Ultra HE.

must flow .6 gpm
This water heater was a very easy install and works as expected, except for one thing, It must have a .6 gallon per minute flow. Less than that it will fill the water line with cold water. I gave 4 stars because I feel there ought to be a way to have hot water no matter how much flow there is

Space/Energy Saver
Just compare old versus new in this pic...only takes up a fraction of the space. Because I switched energy sources, I'm also saving about $80/month on my water heating.I have this installed in a moderately-occupied secondary home. One of the great features is being able to completely shut it down when unoccupied--no longer constantly maintaining 40 gallons of hot water. I have a TOPGREENER Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring controlling it with a monitored consumption of about 1W in standby mode and 25W while operating. The Wifi controller also conveniently doubles as a limit switch when teenagers won't get out of the shower--hit that button and they'll clear out in about 60 seconds. ;-)I'm servicing a smaller home with 1.5 baths and an outdoor shower. The GPM's are perfect for my needs and I don't have to worry about "polar bear club" when someone has run the 40 gallons dry. One of the best features of this continuous runtime was using it to fill a 200 gallon hottub, a feat the old water heater could never handle.A minor annoyance is that it does take a few seconds to fire up and thus it is not good for a quick 10-second handwash or sporadic kitchen sink usage. I also must not have properly curved my old water heater lines with a heat-trap. Beforehand, they maintained enough heat that you didn't have to clear the line before receiving hot water. With the onDemand heater, the faucet temp is noticeably cool until the heat kicks in. That said, the tradeoff between instant heat and savings/unlimited capacity is not enough to make me ever switch back to a tank. The last con that I will point out is that the heater won't run when the power is out. With a tank, not such a big deal, but you'll be cold showering with this guy if the power goes dark. Because the power consumption is so low, problem solved with a CyberPower ST425 Standby UPS System which should run this for several hours in an emergency.Did I also mention @$80/month that this thing pays for itself in less than year?

super hot water despite 70' pipe with 1/2 ID
that's what in wanted to say for anyone thinking about swapping old school tank to this unit. it works amazing filling bath tub or taking shower. water is super hot and I'm not even running it at max. temp. as said, i have 70' pipe with just 1/2" diameter and it works perfectly. in also have no problem with 1 handle faucets.

This is for light hot water needs
Perfect for my needs. Kitchen with sink and dishwasher, washing machine rarely using hot water, and guest bath sink. Large bathrooms are on a different unit at my home. For me it runs great when set to 46C (115F). Going hotter will sometimes slow the volume in the kitchen sink. 46C is a nice temp. Old style water tanks need to be hotter because as water is used the temp of the remaining water gets lower. Just be aware that water temp and volume in combination will impact the flow of hot water. As for installation, I chose to route around the drain pan rather than drill holes in the side. Looks odd but works fine. Isolation valves and drain pan are not included but highly recommended. Did not need tech support but no option not to rate them.

Great solution for 2 bath household
I used this to replace an old 40 gal water heater. I really like that it can vent with PVC. I've just got two bathrooms and only one shower being used at a time. I think if both showers were being run at the same time the water wouldn't be hot enough given my local ground water temp in salt lake but it's perfect for one at a time. Shipping was quick and customer service was excellent when I contacted them about a price change I saw after my purchase.
