Recommended by doctor
My naturopathic physician suggested taking niacin 500 mg twice a day along with bergamot BPF to lower my cholesterol. I haven’t had a retest of cholesterol levels yet but am hopeful this is helping. The first few times I took it, it caused a lot of flushing. But then my body adjusted and the flushing is no longer as severe. I also found that if I take it with food, the flushing is much less and it only lasts a few minutes. My doctor told me to start out taking only one niacin a day for 1 month then increasing to 2 tablets a day.

NOT Nicotinic Acid- NOT immediate release
This product does not claim to be for cholesterol lowering purposes, nor does it hide it's 'Prolonged Release' feature. It is not recommended to take high doses of pharma-tinkered 'Niacin', for any reason that I know of. Certainly, *only* Nicotinic Acid Niacin is known to affect cholesterol positively.I do not know how I got confused, but this product/result is not what I was researching for (my normal supplier, Twin Labs, has had production interruptions). Please be careful, fellow cholesterol researchers! Even this old hand bought the wrong thing. The Nutra label (see picture) even says that it "releases the nutrients slowly (over approximately 2-4 hours)". I apparently glommed-on to the (perhaps unneccessary) warning about flushing, which warning generally indicates a Nicotinic Acid product, and I purchased this wrong item from my results. What a bother, I have to return it. Not sure what kind of 'Niacin' is in this 'Nutra Prolonged Release Niacin 500mg', but it is NOT Nicotinic Acid. While there could be benefits to other kinds of 'Niacin', my understanding is that an such benefits do NOT include cholesterol benefits.

Time will tell
I ordered this product because my doctor said my cholesterol level needed to be lower. I am not into prescription drugs so looked for something natural. This product seemed to be the way to go. Guess I really won't know if niacin does what it needs to do until I have blood work done next time. There haven't been any adverse effects but then I didn't expect there to be.

I believe that Niacin has been instrumental in lowering my triglycerides.

nicotinic acid content.
you asked me to comment on my purchase. I wanted the nicotinic acid for the treatment of cholesterol, and purchased it on the basis of your online add. However the label on the bottles does not mention nicotinic acid. It has been explained to me that niacin (vit. b3) is only beneficial for cholesterol if it is ingested as nicotinic acid and then changes to niacin in the body. If it is already changed during manufacture then it is not as effective. I am therefore disappointed in the purchase. Looking forward to your replyFred [email protected]
