Q: Can you lock the pump in a closed position, e.g. if you wanted to pack it for travel?

I wouldn’t recommend it. It broke down after first filled up.

Q: is the soap bottle made of glass or plastic?

Plastic. The problem with these is it’s not intuitively obvious where the soap spout is. So you press down expecting it from one place and get it from another. The previous incarnation didn’t have this problem but this design requires far less plastic.

Q: How do you open this to refill

the pump top and the stem are connected as one piece while the bottom is the soap container. grab the top and the stem, and twist to open.
