*****UPDATE!! I HAVE NOW REDUCED MY RATING FROM 5 STARS TO 2 STARS!
****************UPDATE!! *********************I have used Cook'n since 2012. It has had quirks occasionally and I've had to contact customer service to fix them. (Which usually involved me removing cook'n from my computer and them giving me a link to re-download the program) Frustrating, but no biggie-computers and software seem to always have one issue or another.Today, I go to email about a problem. (I cannot open my menu planning.) I get this response:Thank you for contacting DVO Enterprises. Cook'n Tech Support Services are available to Premium Subscribers only. If you have not subscribed yet, please subscribe today so we can help you! We received your email and will reply as soon as possible. We usually respond to all e-mails within 24 hours or less during the work week. Please note that we are closed on weekends. Messages sent late Friday and Saturday or Sunday usually receive a response on Monday. Please be sure to take a look at [...] We post answers to frequently asked questions there which may help you solve your problem on your own right now! Sincerely, Dan OaksSo, I'm like what is going on??? I google "cook'n tech support no longer available" which led me back to Amazon and after reading a few reviews, I realized that I must not have read an email from them!My main reason for choosing Cook'n and the 5 stars was because of the cloud feature! *See my "Original Review" below.I understand that it may cost the company to provide this feature and the others features provided, but this is what I wanted & expected when I purchased it-it's why I chose this one over others! Since when is product support an extra feature to be charged for?! If you have the same issues over & over that customers are complaining about-make a page with Problems and Solutions!! Then we can easily fix it ourselves instead of having to email! Most manuals you get provide this! I'll bet that would cut down on 90% of the "Help" emails you get! I know I could never find the solution online to problems I've encountered-I've had to email. If they want to implement these changes, fine. Start charging new customers and make sure it's clearly outlined in the description. But, to take a loyal customer and decide that what they had bought, the company didn't charge enough for, and decide to start charging them is ridiculous!I am so disappointed and saddened. I had really thought about upgrading to the newest version-the trial period really made me want it, but I didn't have the extra $70 to buy it and now I'm so damn glad I didn't! (Those that just bought it really got screwed.)To now enjoy all of the features that we previously enjoyed-Now there is a monthly fee of $14.95 ($179.40 a year). Granted this will include all of the future versions/updates, but that's still over a $100 for everything that WAS free! So, 4 years I have spent importing, creating, and improving of my thousands of recipes...now, I'm stuck with a program that doesn't do what I need it to do and if I want to switch to a different software-how easy will that be to transfer the data without it being a painful process? Anyone know the answer to this?!Needless to say, I will not "subscribe" or buy any future versions. I will back up my recipes to a flash drive or two and pray nothing ever happens. Once again, I'm living on a prayer that I don't lose everything. Guess it's time to look at getting my own cloud. :(*****************************ORIGINAL REVIEW***************************I LOST IT ALL AND THEY SAVED ME! BEST COOKING DATABASE PROGRAM YOU CAN BUY! FIVE STARSBefore I get into details, let me say this: I put almost 100 recipes into a database about 6 years ago. Just a simple one on my computer. Even though I made backups, I didn't do it enough on hard copy. My computer crashed and I lost it. Well, fast forward....I searched extensively on the web for a better program. I downloaded free ones and they were ok, but just did not have the features I wanted. I bought Cook'n about three years ago. Guess what? My computer crashed again! I know right?! But, guess what is different this time? It was all on a cloud and I was able to recover everything! For this reason only, you should look no further. This is one of the most important things right? You do not want to go thru all of that time and effort and lose it all like I did. Best money I have ever spent.I had searched and searched for a software program to organize, store, and eventually make a "Family Recipe Cookbook" out of. I have recipes passed down from family members no longer alive that need to live on with my children. How easily can a fire wipe out everything?Cook'n had great reviews and features that I couldn't find in another. The ability to put my own pictures on a recipe-how awesome is that? The ability to analyze the nutritional values of my recipes. The ability to make a grocery list or menu. The ability to give suggestion on ingredients/quantities makes it so much easier than typing it all out. The ability to grab a recipe off the internet and have it filled in for you. You can email a recipe to a friend. The ability to easily search and find a recipe. The ability to make your own cookbook with the sections that you want. The list goes on!There are new features in the newest version that I haven't tried yet, but look awesome. There are links to: Post on Facebook, Tweet It, Pin it on Pintrest, embed in a web page...wow. I have got some work to do!There is a learning curve. It may take you awhile to figure everything out and get the hang of it. Most of it is instinctual, but there is just soooo much that this program does, that it will take some time to learn it all. Once you do, you will be flying thru it.I cannot more strongly suggest you look no further. I am always 100% honest in my reviews-good or bad. And I'm sure that this goes without saying, but I do not work for them or know anyone who does. Though I wish I did so that I could have the hook-up of all of the future software!

It would be a great program if the features worked like they were supposed to.....
I was so excited to get this software after researching others, especially after watching the video on their dvo.com website. It came with a cookbook complete with nutrition information which I need because of health conditions. I was also impressed it would sync with my iPad to take to the kitchen. I wanted to print fun recipe cards for people who wanted my recipes and perhaps do a cookbook for a fundraiser. My excitement, however, turned to disappointment starting with program installation. The program doesn't allow you to choose what drive or folder to install the program or the data file. I NEVER put data files on my C: drive. After installing and running the update to version 10.0.44, I added a couple of my recipes, selected the graphics I wanted and tried to print a recipe card. It tried to generate a preview print but nothing happened. I then tried to print one from the cookbook, again nothing happened. I looked on their support site and saw others were having some printing issues as well, and then also discovered the graphics would not print, they were only to look at on the screen. They were working on that, said a post from six months ago. Nice.I tried to email a recipe to myself , again, it didn't work. I got on the support site about that, tried their solution and it still didn't work.I uninstalled the software, rebooted the computer and reinstalled. The recipes I put in earlier were gone from the data file, but I was able to print now. I may have been able to restore them from a backup but didn't want to mess up the printing again! I chose a 4x6 recipe card from the print preview screen and printed. You needed a magnifying glass to read it. There was an option to change the font and size but didn't think I should have to do that. It was positioned and sized fine onscreen. The iPad sync still doesn't work because of a cloud issue and the iPad app costs $30 in addition to the program. In reading some of user's comments on their support site, some people have been waiting long periods for fixes on various problems and support says they are working on it.Read the customer support files. It would have been nice to download a demo first, but no demo is available.I ended up returning the software. If the program did everything the video said, it would be the best recipe program out there, but there were just too many issues with it.
