Is this difficult to shrimp safe?, or would you recommend leaving as is?.

I don't think this filter can be made shrimp safe. I would recommend the Aquaclear filter and covering the intake with a Powkoo intake filter sponge.

Will this fit my 36 gallon bow front

Yes it will fit on the back side of tank that has a straight edge. Awesome filter( surface skimmer is a huge plus) only filter that has one. Also purchase a bag of Purigen by Seachem and add it to the medium section of the filter. Polishes the water to be crystal clear! You won’t be disappointed!!!
