BLACK EYE Macro G4 15x macro lens, optimized for smartphones built in/after 2018 (Universal clip attachment, Double-sided anti-reflective coating, Also works with DualCams)

With the right subject/situation, this can work quite well, and the image quality is pretty good with no distortion/fringing/blurriness etc. I'm using it with a Pixel 3a (you need to remove any case, which is quite annoying, but inevitable). The attached images are from my shed late at night - illuminated by a torch (the Pixel's night-vision mode is great here!).The problems are:1. The focus range is very narrow - this is inevitable, really, but be prepared for it.2. The depth of field is extremely narrow! It is really tough to get good images of real things (creatures) with a decent range in focus.3. You have to be in so close that lighting becomes problematic.It does what it does pretty well, but it would be a much more useful (and used) attachment if it didn't try to do quite so much - i.e. with less magnification you'd have better focus range, depth of field and lighting - and actually the results would be better. If I want really good macro shots I need to get our my SLR/macro lens/flash etc - but for a portable attachment I would have preferred a bit less zoom and fewer focus/lighting restrictions.

Firstly it is expensive compared to other similar products. I thought that the peg part would be metal but it is in fact plastic. The yellow rubber ring around the lens constantly falls off when you remove the lens cap as well. It does work and magnifies things quite well but you need to get very close, so maybe not ideal for living creatures such as insect photography. To get clear shots you also need to hold your phone extremely still. And to use it I have to take my phone case off each time otherwise it does not sit properly on the camera lens. I used it to convert some old 35mm slides into digital. To do this I backlit the slides using a tablet showing a white screen and then in a dark room photographed them with my phone and this lens on a sturdy mounting. The slides came out brilliantly in digital. Overall it’s a nice product and is handy to carry in your pocket for quick use when out and about. I carry it on occasions when I don’t have my DSLR with me.

Quite surprised with the quantity of this little lens. Easy to snap on. Bulky phone cases cause dark areas at the corners

Bought as a present for my hubby as I had a similar product which he liked to borrow. He is really happy with it - very portable and quality pics.
