A Special Mouthpiece.
Love this mouthpiece. I played a Bach 5 (not 5G) for 20 years while trying many others off and on. I was playing a lot of jazz and lead, but the 7c and 11c never felt quite right. For me the 5 is better rim size than the 7c or ubiquitous 6 1/2 AL, but the shallower cup and smaller throat was better for my needs. I happened to be playing in a group that Greg Woll was conducting, an amazing teacher by the way, and was looking for something that could handle more volume and power. He mentioned in passing his version of the 5G, the 5GW. I never really liked the 5G, so didn't think too much of it. I went to one of the big mega-stores and spent an afternoon playing a dozen different mouthpieces from different brands. I can't explain back bores, throats, etc. Can just say that the Marcinkiewicz 5GW was the best tone for me, kept the control and flexibility of the Bach 5, but gave me the power I was looking for.
