First cable worked great, second - not so much
I've purchased two of these cables spaced out over about a year. I wouldn't look at third parties with Monster cables as they seem to get a lot of negative reviews for selling knock-offs or defective units. My most recent cable from Amazon direct didn't output any video, which is no good, but I'm still willing to give it a solid review based on my other purchase a ways back. I've since ordered a replacement from Amazon - will update this review if I receive another dud. Perceptually, the quality of the video output is either on par with my previous high-end cable from Monoprice, or better.Rant: Ignore people's emotional reviews about this cable. I have no idea why, but companies like Monster and Bose seem to get more reviews about the companies themselves rather than their products. Also, I'm not certain why people say there's no quality difference with cables - tell that to my Apple TV that has decided just recently that Monoprice cables are a no-go having used them successfully for years.

Well made
I gave this 5 stares because it it extremely well made, it fits tightly and does what it is supposed to do. I purchased this one used for about half retail. In truth, I would not pay full retail since I believe that an Amazon basic HDMI cable would work just as well.

Read reviews carefully for signs of "anti-Monster" schills.
PREFACE: I BOUGHT these cables which gives me the right to review them (unlike other so-called "reviewers"). Don't let the naysayers sour you on Monster products. Amazon has an EXCELLENT return policy so where's the downside of trying them? If you don't like the results or see none, return them! Pretty simple huh? Please excuse my sarcasm in my review below, but I've about had it with schills for $4.00 for 50 meter cables. Liars in cubicles? Owners of cheap equipment which will never resolve good video? Read their tripe with scrutiny and decide for yourself.Yeah, I was "duped" as some reviewers have characterized purchasers of Monster products. I've been buying Monster products for nearly 30 years now. It began with Monster's original 12 AWG side-by-side clear-jacket cable. Soon after their twisted-pair product was released and for the very first time in my interconnect-buying life I was able to RESELL my original Monster speaker cable and upgrade to twisted-pair. Since then I've purchased Monster where-and-when I thought it was appropriate or necessary for the connectivity situation. When I thought it didn't matter, I bought what I thought was adequate. Most of the (negative) "reviews" I've read here about Monster have been "hit pieces" which never mention having purchased, assessed or returned-with-dissatisfaction... ANY Monster product.Since components ARE a variable, I think it would be fitting to list my componentry prior to my eventual endorsement of my purchase:Display: Panasonic TCP-54G20 (NO 3D by choice)BRDP: Panasonic DMP-BDT210 (Plays 3D, but I have no 3D display - Reason for purchase? Good reviews from independent sources and secondarily, built-in WiFi)DVR: DTV HR24 HD DVR - Reason for DTV? Completely free 2-year HD upgrade with 3 free months of 3 movie channels, plus a monetary offset which more than exceeded the $10.00-per-month HD charge. The word "renegotiate" comes to mind - try it - you'll like it!A/V Reciever: "legacy" Yamaha RX-V1 - Reason for not replacing it? I could lift the fronts of $4k+ HDMI-capable recievers with two fingers from my left hand (I'm right-handed). My Yamaha weighs 68 pounds and has an RFI/EMI rejecting inner chassis constructed of solid (THICK) sheet copper. No HDMI inputs? No problem! Even with Blu Ray, the majority of available titles are rendered in 5.1. If you're hungry for a bash tied to a lie, here's one: "Optical cable will not pass 7.1" The fact is optical-cable HAS the bandwidth (AND MORE) to handle 7.1 - the manufacturers just decided NOT to port 7.1 to the optical output so we'd all have to buy new HDMI cables. Optical is OPTimum, but alas just like the "USB Consortium" the HDMI Standard is just another consumer-gutting scam. Optical can pass Ethernet too and I'm sure all of you have seen the diameter of A/V optical - IT'S FAT compared to networking fiber-optics.Speakers: "legacy" NHT Super-Zeros in the elusive Oak finish (I bought a master-pack of 6 just to get them in Oak).Center: "legacy" NHT Super-Center (same drivers (doubled) as the Super-Zeros).Subwoofer: "legacy" NHT SW2Pi (Which was ESPECIALLY hard to get in Oak) with a separate (racked) amplifier and not too much cable-length distance between my rack and the sub.Power-Conditioner/Surge-Protector: Furman rackmounted with two pull-out lights to illuminate my player's opened tray and my racked media drawer. So, let's get to the reviewing: I don't need to validate my purchase to anyone excepting myself and I'm completely pleased with my 800HDs (purchased here on Amazon). The ONLY advice the Directv installation tech had when he left was "The first thing you'll want to replace is that DTV-supplied cable with a better cable - the difference will be like night-and-day". Guess what? He was RIGHT! The blacks are so much more defined. Let's review - a man who installs HD all day long says his own company's cables are junk and he turns out to be telling the truth.I work with FLOODS of data all day long and as so many "non reviewers" have said: "HDMI is a digital standard". Well when backing up hundreds of servers with camera images, PDF files, medical charts, PACS digital Radiology Images (they're FAT!), everyone's emails and saved documents and sub-departmental newsletters, I can squeeze a lot of data through a fiber-cable with a core the size of of a mechanical pencil lead. A/V optical cable has the diameter of an eybrow pencil = it WOULD pass 7.1 (and Ethernet if they'd let it). After changing out all the supplied and cheaply purchased HDMI cables in my system with Monster my new (made in JAPAN!) plasma just erupted with brightness. The last time I saw so many different shades of black was on a $38k drop-screen Runco front-projection system. To the naysayers who will no doubt blast my review I have a prepared response: "Dang my lying eyes!".
