Great personal experiences shared inside!
We experience negative and toxic things at work and are astounded that they happen. Not only that, we are even MORE astounded that they aren't just isolated incidents and they continue to happen! The ultimate offense is when it's the leaders who are purveying these types of behaviors and practices! But what can be done about it?The authors and researchers who came together to write this book have not only identified clear problems that create a toxic workplace, but they have strategically provided practical resources that can be used to survive and thrive in these types of workplaces.Being brave enough to shine a light on the problems often times puts a target on your back because the very things that are causing the toxicity are the things that got people in positions of power in the first place. If you're struggling in a toxic workplace and don't know what to do and feel like you're alone, read this book and learn about the strategies discussed by the authors and the people they've interviewed. Not only will you come away with a toolbox of practical resources, but the feeling that you aren't alone in your fight.

Must read for any one working at any level...happy or frustrated with their job!
Don’t wait till you find yourself in a toxic workplace. This book is a must read for any worker and especially leaders.Based on research, authors share real examples in a personal tone that helps readers related to the topic and situations. Yet, the discussion and strategies or walk always are broad enough where you don’t have to be in that exact situation to benefit.I learned a lot. As an educator, I will be able to use what insight I gain with students, parents, peers, and those that lead me.The biggest take away was that we have a new gen of leaders with didn’t life experiences and strategies for managing...under pressure asure for accountability and performance....and how they lead or don’t lead will impact future workplaces. However, it won’t be about resolving all these conflicts, we need to look at how conflicts can be managed in workplaces...managed in ways that help people grown and companies or organisations be more positive places to work.Shares traits and examples of leaders and situations to watch out for as well as some fabulous strategies to support. Will be giving as gifts to all my friends!

Like a Cheesy Inspirational Office Poster or Greeting Card
I will echo what several reviews have said. I purchased this kindle book along with the audible version so I could listen on my way to work. I immediately regretted my purchase after the first chapter. This book is probably good if you're in a bad work situation and just want to know you're not alone, and that there really are good places to work out there in the world. It's kind of a "misery loves company" approach where you read lots of stories about other people who are in crappy work situations. However, if, like me, you're a generally positive person that's no stranger to overcoming odds and have been stretched beyond your normally high capacity to manage a stressful work environment...you will probably be offended, not relieved, by reading a survival tip that says "stay positive"The rest of the tips in the book are basically along those lines - they remind me of those cheesy cards with the cat hanging from a tree branch that say "hang in there!" across the bottom.I was seeking strategies to manage my work environment that were a little more philosophical and thought provoking - things that go deeper than "get tough" (another inspirational greeting card tip found in the book). I was looking for something meaty and full of personal challenges to help counter the incredible intensity of my job. When your work feels so intense, it's almost more disheartening for a book to take such a flippant approach to helping you manage it.Basically it feels like the writer has interviewed a lot of people in bad work situations, but has never actually been in a really bad one themselves. As a result it comes across as detached and fluffy.

Full of personal experience
If you have this book to someone who's never had a job, it might help them. It describes the sort of encounters you may have in the workforce. Otherwise, it reads more like a series of personal accounts. There's little advice beyond to quit. Just to take account of your health and judge how toxic your boss is based off of a checklist.

You are not crazy!
This book helps you put things in perspective. Sometimes things are as bad they seem at your workplace! This book lets you know you are not crazy and justifies your concerns about your personal well being. If you are not happy at your job this book might not be for you - if your chain of command exhibits some of the characteristics outlined in the book and you really want to do your best at work then this book is for you.If you identify your workplace as toxic, the book gives you coping strategies. It also lists many actual examples of good workplaces and hope that things can always change for the better! It is full of many real world examples and as many of Chapman's books are, very practical.

Survival Tactics
Having recently had my "This Is The Perfect Job" puppy brutally dismembered right before my horrified eyes, I was desperate to place my experience into some kind of context. I am a survivor of domestic abuse and the feelings I experienced were so startlingly familiar to me that I couldn't believe they were appropriate or in response to something that was really happening! Turns out my experience is overwhelmingly common and can be mitigated and managed by a variety of attitudes and actions that are well within my control. Yay!

Many good ideas
I think the most of guides like this are actually read after two or three chapters. This book was different. I was somehow struggling in the first chapters, because those felt like just complaining about everything. Ok, I look things from the boss' view. But the last part of the book was the actual treasure to me. There were plenty of ideas and viewpoints that helped me to cope with the problems actual to me.

But great for dealing with difficult situations in the workplace
It more on the emotional level than the physical. If you are looking for a book on creating a healthy workplace with less EMS, sitting, fast food vending machines and more windows, this is not it. But great for dealing with difficult situations in the workplace.
