Why would i get this over the firemask which claims to do all the same things for $120 less?

I Googled American Standard ASTM E2952-14 and then what Firemask says their mask is certified for ASTM 54.05. E2952-14 says in the first section " certification of air-purifying respiratory protective smoke escape devices" ASTM E54.05 is a subcommittee on Homeland Building and Infrastructure Protection. Firemask apparently has a safe building and iEvac apparently has a certified escape device... I think that is worth $120.00

How much time will it last in a fire?

This is a smoke mask not a fire mask.

Would I be able to reuse this hood multiple times or is this a disposable one time only?

From my understanding you can only use the hood once in a fire situation. If it saves my life from a fire, I am more than happy to throw the hood away and purchase another one. I also hope to never need it once, never mind multiple times.

What is the optics quality? Pictures show crinkled plastic. Crinkled plastic could really distort vision in regular or a smoke filled evironment .

I do not have what I think you will consider a good answer for your question. Like the others, I have not opened this specific product. However, as someone who has had to function in an acrid smoke-filled environment (many years ago), I can say that crinkly plastic may be superior to tear-filled, burning eyes that are squeezed shut by reflex and can only be opened briefly by shear willpower. Modern interiors have a lot of plastic and burning plastic produces formaldehyde, etc. Tough on eyeballs and other organic systems. I hope this is at least germane. Bill Olson, MD
