Ferrara Italian Specialty Cake, Panettone, 32 Ounce (Packaging May Vary)

I bought this and the Madi brand this year to compare them with the Baducco I had purchased for the last two years. I found both of these brands to be light, fresh and with a nice quantity of Sultanas (raisins) along with just the right amount of candied citrus. The Madi was less sweet than the Ferrara and didn’t have as much of the candied citrus. Both were equally excellent and I will buy both of these next Christmas.The only issue I have with any of these holiday treats - besides the high cost - is the servings are generally stated as 11. That would mean cutting thick wedges. I quarter each of these cakes gently with a long straight bladed serrated knife. I then cut slices from the small end that are not too thick - a bit less than 1/2” - 2 or 3 per person of this size is usually plenty. The quarters freeze very well. I put the them in two bread bags with ties and in zip bags, label & freeze. This way I have Panettoni every Easter! Thaw in the fridge then bring to room temp. A lovely, light treat to enjoy with breakfast or brunch.

If you are looking for the best Panettone you have just found it. Not only is the cake very rich and flavorful it is also filled with bits of dried fruit that are absolutely delicious. I can not recommend this highly enough. All the ingredients are ones I am not allergic to and there is no palm oil to be found in this cake. You can slice this and serve it with a little butter and it is amazing. We get a Panettone at least once a year and I will remember this brand in the future! This brand has the best taste because it has the least chemicals in the cake. It is fresh and texture is good.

Having endured countless dry and flavorless panettones in my lifetime, I can't tell you the pleasure of finding this one. Fresh, flavorful, just the right balance of orange peel and raisins. You can easily spend twice as much and get one half as good. I intend to make it a Christmas tradition from now on.

While this has the traditional tall loaf with both raisins & candied orange peel, the original grapes kept their seeds, thus these raisins had extra bits - inedible bits. While the flavor was fine, It was frustrating to have to keep removing the seeds whilst chewing.
