Great vocal mic for small gigs and probably larger ones too.
For those folks out there that just want a decent mic that sounds pretty darn good without breaking the bank, I don't see how you can go wrong with this mic. For $40 don't expect recording quality but don't be afraid to buy this mic if you are just starting out and playing small gigs with a small budget. This mic is professional quality compared to some I've used to sing through in the past. I'm using it now as a vocal mic in a small jam band playing in senior citizens centers and nursing homes. Heck, I'm an old guy that doesn't play the joints anymore, playing with some other guys in the same situation, so I've been through a lot of mics in my experience. I really like this mic, it's well made and does a fine job in the setting I'm using it. I am using it through a small Fender amp(20 watt) with a tiny bit of gain cranked in if that helps in any way.

Shure Quality for Less - Sure, why not?
I've been using these PG48 mics for years - the sound is nearly indistinguishable from Shure's industry-standard SM58 when in a rehearsal situation. As a singer in metal bands, I've very rough on my microphones. This mic holds up to any aggressive style and can handle lots of abuse.I damaged my 'go to' rehearsal mic (a 5-year-old PG48) during band practice on a Wednesday, and had another rehearsal on Friday -I needed my Shure Mic QUICK! - I placed my order with Amazon and my mic was delivered and ready to go Friday afternoon.I definitely recommend this mic for anyone wanting quality on a budget.

Great Mic, Great Deal!
I use this for Video Exchanges on a guitar instruction website. It's perfect for vocals, podcasting, video recording and so forth. Shure makes excellent stuff. What's also great is you save some money as an XLR cable is included. I'm very happy with this purchase.

AMAZING!!! Used for vocals in a church.
This microphone works better than our other three that cost three times as much. We use it in our church and my wife, who is the main singer in my church laid claim to this one after about 10 seconds of use.Update 2020: Been using this for four years now every service and it still works amazing. People fight over using it still.

Buy This!
4 stars instead of 5 only because this thing won't tune your guitar or carry your amp. I use this solo, in a duo with a bass player, in a trio with drums and bass. I have a regular gig at a medium sized club that is basically one large room. I use it through a Pyle Pro self contained Pa into which I also plug my Martin GRP elec/acoustic. The sound quality is excellent. The volume seems limited only bny what the Pyle Pro will put out. I would have no hesitation using this for bigger rooms with a full band and PA. I haven't heard a hint of feedback and the on/off switch is a plus. The 36.99 price might seem to good to be true but think of the things for which we are paying less for than we used to. I bought a 32" Toshiba flat screen for around 230 bucks, Think of what that would have cost even five years ago or less. The same is true of a lot of Audio Gear. A lot of companies are bringing high quality elctronics and music to the market but it's great to have a company like Shure make something so good and so affordable. They have always made a high quality product and now they have one that almost anyone can afford. I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

Great for the price!
These things i found out rocked! They truly completed my simple karaoke setup!I had some of the $10 pyle mics and i thought they were decent...but using the pyles i had to turn up all the gains and volume on the mixer to get them to pump out. And with the pyles you basically had to press them against your mouth to get audio out. These Shures however, pickup vocals with ease! The clarity is pronounced and no need to setup the gains all high on the mixer. I was really missing out when i decided to use cheap mics before i went with a trusted brand! Highly recommend!I have the Behringer Xenyx 802 2 channel mixer with Behringer EUROLIVE B210D PA speaker. And my karaoke system bumps!

Not for live music
I bought this with the intention of using it in musical performance, and it was a poor choice. This microphone's pick up range is too wide, and thus feeds back very easily. Looking back on it, this microphones intentions are written right on the box "for karaoke and speech". To be frank, that is about all it would be good for. Which, by the way, it isn't bad at (I've seen it in speech action). If you are looking for a cheap microphone that will hold up for a while, this is great. But don't expect it to be able to handle a rock show, or even an mellow ambient setting.
