Ask any barista: all grinders make some powder. It would be impossible to grind roasted beans without creating some powder. Now if your grinder is making more than a little--a quarter tsp at most--you've probably got a bad grinder.

Q: Does one touch operation mean on/off, or do you have to press and hold to grind?

One touch operation means that when you touch the button the grinder will automatically grind to the exact time and grind that you require. DO NOT HOLD THE BUTTON.

Q: What is best grind number setting for drip coffee maker?

I like the #3 setting for my cone drip coffee maker. It is fine enough to bring out the full flavor.
