It was such a pleasure to look at these original and really creative photos by Bill Cunningham over decades. He was one of a kind. Nobody could put impressions (and outfits) together as he did. He created meaning through his photography--not just patterns and aesthetic pleasure (but that too!).The format of the book really made his art "shine."

I bought this as a Christmas gift last year but couldn't find it once I started wrapping gifts. Decided it would be a great birthday gift. Still couldn't find it so I had to buy something else for a birthday gift. As February rolled around I thing how great it was I already had a Valentine's Day gift to give. Alas, I still couldn't find the book. I hoping I find the book soon so I can give it as an anniversary gift. If not it will make a great Christmas gift this year.

The photos are excellent and all interesting and colorful. The writing is so-so, and sometimes it's difficult to figure out which photo the caption pertains too. Nevertheless, I am enjoying it and have several friends waiting to borrow it. Good gift for a lover of fashion and/or Manhattan street life.

I love this book. I liked looking at five decades of fashion. I could remember all those looks. I remember reading about the people. It was just pure fun to look back. I first got this book from the library. I loved it so much that I had to own it. I highly recommend it to any person who lived through the era or any person curious about the era or the fabulous Bill Cunningham.

This is not "just a picture book" for the coffee table, although it fills that position quite well. Plenty of commentary and context accompany this retrospective chronicle of 40 years of style.
