Both cast iron and cast aluminum chimineas will last for many years with some regular maintenance: keep ashes cleaned out and paint occasionally with high temperature paint. Q: Does this chiminea come with a cooking grate?

There is a 9 and 1/8 inch cooking grate that can be placed between the main stove and the chimney. It comes with it, and you only put it in if you want to cook, otherwise, it stays out. I have never used it, so it sits on the ground under the chiminea.

Q: Is the deck protector recommended and/or useful for a Trex composite deck system? Would you recommend this product for use on a composite deck?

Our deck protectors are designed as protection from a stray ember or ash from a wood burning fireplace. The fire resistant pad is not fireproof. It will protect your deck area from embers or a burning log until it can be placed back in the fire. It will not protect your deck from direct heat or intense direct fire.
