LOVE IT !
As usual I was looking to replace a Sony 5 disk changer, bought in the mid 90s at the peak of cd tech. Now the selection is slim anywhere you look. I bought the Yamaha because I trust the brand.Things I likeThe cd sound is bad ass! I cant say enough about it.It does everything the old cd player did. shuffles the cd and the song with every new selection. You can change out cds while its playing.Easy install, a power cord and two wires, left and right, to plug into the amp.BEST OF ALL is that this unit is designed to work hand in hand with I Pod tech. When I read about this in the owners manual I was very curious. I have a older ipod that has problems. the battery runs out quickly and the >> no longer works on the wheel. Its a 16 GB with 1700 songs. So the advance button was the first to go. This is no longer a problem. The Yamaha has a USB port in the front. You plug in your ipod select USB, the ipod turns itself on and the Yamaha hand remote will control all the basic commands. You still have to program the ipod if you want to listen to a specific artist or album and select shuffle if you want songs played randomly. The battery is no longer a problem because when USB is selected and the ipod is plugged in its being charged. I just leave my little ipod with all its songs, plugged in, and laying on the Yamaha. This unit just brought back to life a great little piece of technology. So now, for me, its twice the value!Things I don't like.Like with all fading tech, lack of interest drives, or rather, no longer drives the market. so the digital display in the front of the unit is very very small, unlike my Sony. The remote is not great but its ok.Ill leave with just a couple thoughts, because this type of tech has run its coarse it has the potential to possess the very best of all the cd developments that occurred during that time. I think that's why it sounds so goodAdding the digital option is a really nice touch but it was inevitable. I will say that cds sound better than the ipod but that could just be me.

This Yamaha CD-600 Bests Denon's DCM-390 performance!!!
Bought the Yamaha CD-C600BL as a replacement for currently offered Denon DCM-390 5-Disc changer which I listened to everyday for 2 years. The Denon, while excellent, is bested by this Yamaha in most ways. However, the differences in sound quality between these two players, while discernible, are less than 5% according to my ears. That being said, I would characterize the Yamaha as being fuller in the bass and smoother in the vocals and highs than the Denon. Additionally I would say the Yamaha has slightly better timing and cohesion of sound staging. The only thing the Denon has going for it that the Yamaha doesn't is the HDCD decoder which isn't a big deal because few discs are recorded with the HDCD embedded code that allows a 20-bit resolution playback. My office stereo system is a pair of Wharfedale Diamond Standmount speakers, with a Yamaha RX-797 100watt receiver with high quality interconnects & bi-wired speaker cable. I play jazz, new age, pop, vocals, etc all day long as I am a massage therapist. When you listen to music all day long as I do, that 5% difference in sound quality makes a big difference in taking the edge off listening fatigue--I really appreciate it.Functionally, the Yamaha's changing mechanism is faster, quieter, and more graceful changing discs than the Denon. I disagree with one reviewer who thinks this player is slow. All the 5 Disc changers are sloooooow. This one is relatively fast in my estimation. The Yamaha remote could be a little better: The disc skip and the track skip are quite a distance apart and the labeling is small for my 46 yr. old eyes. The really, really, big deal about this Yamaha is the front panel MP3 player USB port! This was the feature that sold me. I can load many, many, cd's converted to MP3's loss-less format onto my iPod Nano (16Gigabytes) and enjoy a cd quality playback without ever having to change a single cd in the changer. The Yamaha takes the data from the Ipod without using the Ipod's inferior DAC/amp/preamp circuits and uses instead the cd player's superior DAC (digital-to-analog converter)for playback. The Ipod is fully a high fidelity component in my system! My how times are a changing. This piece of equipment is a delight at the Amazon price. I got it sent overnight for a mere $4 shipping upgrade with Amazon's free 30-day trial offer: Free second-day-air-for-a-year-program for $70 per year. Heck, the clerk at FedX told me it would have cost approximately $100 to overnight this shipment. I got my money's worth in the first shipment so now it's free 2nd day air for a whole year anytime I order through Amazon. What a bargain! I'm thrilled all the way around. I highly recommended this Yamaha CD player and Amazon. Thank you Yamaha!02/02/2015 Review Update. It's been almost 5 years since I purchased this machine. It has played flawlessly for 4 days/week and 6hrs/day for almost 5 years now. No problem whatsoever. Not even a hiccup. Could not be happier.

Very Nice Yamaha CD Changer
I bought this unit to replace a 13 year old, relatively inexpensive Kenwood 5-disc changer. I also bought the Yamaha AX-497 Stereo Amp at the same time. I thought it would sound vastly superior, being 24-bit, but was surprised that it is not a huge improvement. Maybe that is the nature of digital, I don't know. The new amplifier did make a big difference over my old receiver, but that is another review. My old Kenwood had one feature I like better -- you can rotate the disc platter to change out discs while playing the current one. The Yamaha platter does not rotate, you just leave the back disc opening alone, as that is where the playing disc resides. Not that big a deal really. The discs change pretty quickly, and using the remote you can program the playing order and control other functions. The great thing about this to me is the USB port, which bypasses the iPod DAC and uses the much better converter in the disc changer. It really makes your MP3's sound great! I use the CD audio-direct mode on my AX-497 amplifier, which makes a noticeable improvement in sound quality. Using the direct on the cd-payer makes only a slight difference. The unit is high quality. It is both well built and attractive, although it shows finger prints easily. I am a big Yamaha fan and own many products from their sound system line (PA stuff). I have never had one problem with anything they make. I bought this as an open box item for about $257 plus shipping. I looked for months for a deal on one, but it is too new I think. I'm sure the price will drop at some point. I paired with the AX-497 for $199 at a half-price NewEgg sale, so for the money I am quite happy with the sound. I run it through either some Vintage Pioneer CS99A speakers or some modern studio monitors. I will never be an audiophile, but this is probabaly the next best thing.
