Looks nice, but loud!
Overall I've been pleased with the look and function of this hood. Attractive, easy controls and not overly fussy. Draws smoke and odors well even on the low setting. One big drawback, though. This fan is noisy! For example, I often have a radio on in the background at about regular conversation volume. Once you turn on the hood fan it totally drowns it out. Even on the lowest setting, my husband complains that he feels like he is on a runway listening to a propeller plane getting ready for takeoff. If I had to do it over again, I think I'd spend a little more money on a quieter unit. However, for the price range of this model I still think it is a reasonable purchase, especially if you are working with a tight budget.

Works very well, very attractive, great value
It installed easily (I've never installed one and I was able to do it), looks very attractive, and does the job. Very bright light (good), strong fan on high setting (good), and pretty good construction. I have a nice kitchen and it fits right in. And for the price, it can't be beat.

Poorly manufactured vent hood.
Broke after 18 months. It is fairly attractive. One of the bulbs burned out a month after it was installed. Hard to find exact replacements so I swapped in a lower wattage one that I could find locally. The red dot on the switch falls off occasionally (poor design). The sides did not fit correctly without creative adjustments. Now the motor acts up and makes a crunching sound 80% of the time. I will eventually disassemble the unit to see how crappily it was made. I would avoid this brand at all costs. It's not worth the hassle or your hard earned $$$.

Poor quality
This exaust was to replace one that was ten years old. I installed both and the Broan is thin and very light. It is hard to anchor so that it is stable. The small light that warns you the blower is running worked for five minutes and quit. The extension to the cieling is hard to fit in the slots in the base

A Definite Winner
It has been over seven months since we got this hood, and all of our first impressions have not changed. First my take on the installation. Broan provides good instructions, which you can get online before buying. I didn't put in a 2 x 4 behind the drywall. I saw there were 5 screw holes to secure the hood. I used one stud and 4 wall anchors rated 40 or more pounds. The hood is not going anywhere. The only help needed was with the vent in the crawl space - someone had to fit the duct pipe in roof cap while I arranged the bottom on the hood top. Not a particularly hard job.Function: lights are very bright, blower is more than sufficient for our largish gas range, it has not been hard to clean, and the grease screen is easy to remove and clean. No problems.Appearance: really one of the most attractive and modern hoods around for my aesthetic (a stainless steel back-splash from the top of the stove to the bottom of the hood enhances the sleek modern look). Since this was a remodeling job, we went from a ceiling hole for 10 inch duct to 8 inch duct, leaving a 1 to 2 inch circular open space to the attic. I solved this problem by buying a plastic ceiling decoration for lights, dropped the outer flue, drew a pattern, sniped it out, and it fit tightly enough, that screws were not needed to hold it in place. It looks a little ostentatious but better than the alternatives.Value: simply cannot be beat. The Broan Chimney Range Hood helped us realize our goal of economically taking a 1960's kitchen and transforming it into an attractive, functional, modern kitchen.Negatives: the control switches do no slide easily, and the fan is on the noisy side.In summary, four-and-a-half stars.

Just ok
The unit was defective upon arrival, one aide of the hood is sticking out, we fix it by a small claim, it is looking good, all hardware were there. Installation is fairly easy I could give it 4 stars if it was not defective unit. And the packing was not good. One of the lights buld was rolling out of the box and took me a few minutes to look for it, it should be in the box.

Great hood for the money
I recently replaced my kitchen and was overwhelmed by the number of chimney range hoods, their noise levels and quality of suckage. I started by reading comments on amazon, moved on to other sources, quickly got overwhelmed, and returned to amazon and to this range hood. I am grateful to those who submitted comments. I can't say enough good things about this range hood. It is attractive, amazingly quiet and sucks extremely well. I've had 2 other range hoods in the 21 years I've lived in my home and this is the best. I tested it by placing a piece of paper under the fan to test its power and the paper held firmely in place until I took the fan off. Above all, the price can't be beat. I bought it from DataVision Computer Video and am entirely pleased.

This unit has been installed before with tape on the duct and mounting hardware damaged. The electric motor is damaged or defective and makes and ungodly noise. We spent a day installing this now it has to come out. NO Stars!!
