Great manual grinder
I wanted something that I can take with me on trips and not worry about finding a power outlet. This is a great manual grinder. It's pretty to look at and it's mechanically smooth. I have been using it every day. I'd recommend this to anyone who doesn't want an electronic grinder.

Adequate, but the i like the kyocera better.
Wish I could make a 3.5 stars (it's a solid 3 now after the update)Reviewer: coffee consumer, not an expertWhy i bought: wanted a burr grinder that i could use when my kids or wife were sleeping. although i would prefer not to hand grind i'm not adverse to adding to the whole anticipation and process of making coffee (use an aeropress).good: does the job, can adjust the grind pretty well, can hold 4+ "scoops" of coffee beans if i wanted to make that much at a timeneutral: as expected it takes time; 90sec per scoop for a rough maxwell or nestle level grind, 120sec for a finer starbucks/espresso level grind per scoop. takes effort but not brute strength to grind so don't bother if you actively avoid stairs. cost, personal opinion obviously.bad: a touch delicate, accidently dropped from cabinet onto counter (3 feet) and the tabs that hold the receiving canister on the bottom will no longer stay secure making grinding a bit torturous. will see how replacing parts goes.I like being able to see the grinds in bottom but I would give that up for increased durability. it's only going to hit the handle(which seems sturdier) or the bottom.Would I recommend: mostly, with caveats7MAY2014 Update:As I don't speak German I have been unable to make any progress on replacing the bottom of the grinder and have since purchased the Kyocera Ceramic Coffee grinder for about 30$.Between the two I recommend Kyocera for the following reasons:-The longer handle decreases grinding effort-the rubber cover on the bottom allows for secure placement on a surface-grinds don't stick to the glass collection jar like they do with the plastic zassenhaus-if you break the bottom of the kyocera collection container you can replace it with a mason or mayonnaise jarThe only drawbacks to the kyocera are; it doesn't look as cool and the open top will allow for some specks of bean to pop out when you grind. The zassenhaus probably travels better.

Good value
UPDATE: I had to contact the manufacturer to replace a broken part, and the service was exceptional! It was not the grinder mechanism, but the cup at the bottom that catches the coffee grounds. The tabs that lock the cup onto the grinder were weak and slowly began to chip away to the point that I used rubber bands to hold it onto the grinder. The replacement 'cup' seems to be much thicker than original part, and therefore, much less prone to fail. The replacement arrived from Germany within 2 weeks and at no charge.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I am comparing this to the similarly priced blade grinders. I bought this to go with my french press, as the blade grinders I had been using failed to meet my rising standards of a good brew. I am getting a much more consistent particle size. Also, I noticed that the local coffee shop's burr grinder didn't give near as nice a course grind as this manual grinder. I shopped around for a burr grinder that would have the biggest bang for the buck. Sure, its not the best grinder, but at 50 bucks, its probably one of the best values. If you are like me and need to get to as close to perfection as possible with minimal investment, then this is probably not a bad way to go.I have only used it a few times for french press and pour over. The results were some of the best cups of coffee I'd had. I have a Gaggia classic and I will report on the quality of an espresso shot from this grinder in a future update!UPDATE: This morning, I pulled my first shot of espresso from the Gaggia classic using fresh beans that I ground with the Lima. The ground coffee was fine and uniform. The results were nothing short of amazing. The best part of this grinder is the portability. I can transport my coffee grinder from home (french press) to work (co-worker's Gaggia), so I don't need to buy another grinder.

Plastic container breaks very easily
Purchased less than 2 years ago. Use it about once a week. The plastic top and bottom where it screws on to the unit is completely cracked and broken for about the past year. It is a nice looking item and functions well, but the plastic broke less than a year into having the item. Would not recommend to buy it unless for looks and very infrequent usage.

Perfect grinder for french press
Perfect grinder for french press! It is slow but creates the perfect size for french presses and I love using this for cold brewed coffee

Excellent manual gran grinder.
I highly recommend this manual hand grinder. I purchased it for preparing french press coffee. It grinds coarse as I need for a perfect cup and it takes a few minutes. The ratio price/quality is very good. I recommend to hand it with your knees.
