Product Description Thames and Kosmos Alternative Energy and Environmental Science Power House Green Essentials From the Manufacturer Power House: Green Essentials Edition. To live sustainably, we must use Earth's resources at a rate at which they can be replenished, and thus provide for future generations to live as we have. In this kit, you can learn about alternatitive energy and sustainable living by conducting experiments and building energy-related models. Thirty of the best experiments and the ten most important building projects from the original Power House kit are presented in their Green Essentials Edition. The ten building projects include: the power house itself, a greenhouse, a solar cell array, a passive solar collector, a solar oven, an air conditioner, a refrigerator, a hydrometer, a lemon battery, and a wind power generator. Experiment with the heating, cooling, and insulation of the house and greenhouse. Test passive solar collection methods with a solar collector. Assemble a solar power array to explore active solar power with photovoltaic's. Build a model refrigerator and air conditioner to learn about heat transfer. Experiment with a lemon battery to learn about power storage. Set up a wind turbine to generate electricity from the wind. As you perform the experiments, you will read the diary entries of a group of young explorers who are learning to live a sustainable existence on an island. To survive, they must implement real-world versions of the projects you are doing in the kit.

Don't buy this project
hello we are students and we bought this project thinking it would come out great but unfortunately we were disapointed . the reason is that the manual book is to vague, the parts don't fit in correctly also satin and it is not durable. we thought that the project was going to be nice especially the solar power pannels the pannels don't even charge and there is nothing to light up. about the manuel the instuctions were not instructions they were more telling and explaining. the paper parts were even confusing.its alot of money we wasted on this project and sorry to say this but we would like our money back!! we are students and we give this a no star rating :) oh from the picture it looks nice but actually its not worth it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you :(

Power house is a great way to learn
My 9 year old daughter used this for a science fair project to demonstrate residential solar energy. The solar panels are surprisingly strong. The manual and materials are easy to use and understand. We supplemented this with a number of resources on the internet to really understand how a solar panel generates electricity.

not durable
this would have a great benefit if it wasnt made out of syrofoam, maybe make the outside plastic and the inside styrofoam, because my daughter is using this as her senior project on green homes/going green, and she nearly broke it in half just by trying to put it together. not well made if you ask me, but she did learn a lot from the experiments.

Terrible Ordering Experience
I am sure the kits are going to be great but we ordered them through our school with no problem but when I went to order one item from Amazon, I was billed for three more kits! Customer service is somewhere else in the world something where they do celebrate Christmas and could care less about getting my money returned to me.

Good Project for the budding solar engery scientist
We purchased this item for our budding scientist. He just started working on the home and he enjoys constructing the house and checking the temperature. I have to check how much he can accomplished so I can provide more feedback. For myself, I wish the house was not constructed by foam since it can easily be chewed on by a little tyke.

for an older child
I got this for my eleven year old. We do the projects together, but I think to get the most out of it, it is for 13 and up.

Solar Home Project
I purchased this Solar Home Kit for my 9 year old son and one of his buddy's for a science project. He and his friend actually put the whole project together with no help from an adult from start to finish. The only adult supervision they recieved was to ensure their safety and for guidance.

Excellent for a Science Fair
My boy won the first place of his school Science Fair this year. We did a very nice Solar Powered Car and with the house and other few things it was the best project overall. But is not durable, so you must handle it with care.

My little world
Is a very nice gift, very educational. You can have a lot of fun by playing with this little house that can produce her own energy. I just love it.
