Took a little manhandling to get the socket on

This was my first ever experience with repairing an electronic device, so I'm not aware of what's normal with replacement parts. I did successfully perform surgery on my Nexus 7, and the charging port and headphone jack work, so I'm happy about that. I also love now having some basic tools and tiny Phillips head screwdrivers around, which have allowed me to open up an old pair of headphones I have and inspect it.However, the part itself was difficult to plug in. The old one came out quite easily, but I spent probably 20 minutes trying to get the new one in without damaging anything. I think I caused some wear on the plug during that struggle, which was frustrating. I examined the two parts' sockets closely and found that this one's "teeth" are ever so slightly more raised, by maybe a fraction of a millimeter -- again I don't know if this is normal, and I'm sure creating perfectly sized parts is hard, but I believe that to be the cause of my issue. I ended up having to remove the battery to get a better grip on the plug.Other than that, though, I'm happy with the quality of what I received. It feels weird doing all this for a 9-year-old Android tablet, but she's still running!

Good product Resurrected my Nexus 7

Another Vote for US Cellular Parts. This is the provider you choose from among the sellers of this parts. They do charge you shipping. I was sceptical to pay since I am prime customer. But paid anyway due to another review here. Boy am I glad!! Worked like a charm and resurrected my Nexus 7! Like so many others have said, you must keep that steel cap or whatever for the audio jack. The Video in question for replacing the part ishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5FagzLdbbMFor those who might be interested.EDIT - FOR THOSE WHO ARE WONDERING, This product works with MTP. In other words, you can connect to a PC to transfer data with this port. I had to connect to flash latest firmware. Did so successfully.PROs -1. Great part. OEM not original. Works just the same.2. Excellent packaging. Nice to have the tools included. (I had my own Micro screwdrivers but the blue tools help to open casing)3. Good for 1st Gen Tablets.CONs - Really have to scrape the barrel here.1. The length of the joining ribbon is bit longer than original. Takes a bit more time to align screw holes. No other issues.2. Should be a prime seller.

super easy replacement!

Fits perfectly, although the ribbon cable is literally like a millimeter to long. Not a problem with it however, it nestles neatly in the section and causes no problems at all.I wish it came with a little piece of tape to hold the headphone jack in place, but again, nothing to be concerned about.Installation time was about 20 minutes, the super mini screws are hard to see.My Nexus 7 (2012) is charging very nicely and at the steady pace it usually does from the charger. The old port has some discoloration from probably age and charging over & over.So thank you for selling this piece! and thank Asus for making it not a huge hassle to replace!I opted to purchase the installation tools as well just because you can never have enough of these things working with electronics. The tools are very very good quality, I would buy them again with no hesitation!I wish a lot of the companies that sell tools for tablets/phones/etc would have high quality stuff like what came with this kit.

Component is better than the original, and the took kit can be used for ALL kinds of repairs...

I've used this tool kit on 2 other repairs (laptop) since doing the original replacement of the Nexus 7 charge port. The charge port itself was easy to replace, and my regular home tools, including exacto knives and precision screwdrivers would not have worked to complete this repair. It doesn't come with instructions, so you'll need to hit up google for that. I used a guide on Ifixit and finished in about a half hour. The flat audio cable that's attached is about 1/2 cm too long, but can be pressed down long enough to replace the back cover without being pinched by any other component. If it looks like it doesn't fit, it's fine, just make sure it's not sticking up anywhere but the center.

The FIX for your Nexus not fully charging!

My original part was not allowing good contact on data lines which precluded proper charging. Use of a USB voltage and current tester, as found on Amazon, showed that wiggling the OEM cable permitted proper contact and charging. The data lines somehow regulate how the unit charged by sensing resistors in the charger connected to them to regulate charging. With some pins, on the original, having bad connections, the charging was messed up. With this new part, charging returned to original specifications and the unit would again charge to 100%. Not to forget the handy tools which made installing the replacement part a breeze! My recommendation; If your Nexus is not charging to full specifications, it could be the battery, but more likely, buying and replacing this part will be the answer. ( I will, in the future, buy another one to insure my Nexus has a long life. )
