Great, economical cooling performance, though quite heavy and pretty noisy
So far we are very happy with the Frigidaire 18,500 BTU FFRH1822R2. We recently closed in a large screened porch in deep east Texas where the temperature for the last couple of months since we purchased the unit has been hovering in the mid to upper 90s every day. The Frigidaire unit has been keeping the room nice and cool and is just what we had been looking for. We installed the unit on the upper part of a wall, so the remote is great to have and works very well. We haven't had any of the problems with the remote mentioned in some of the other reviews. We generally keep the unit on its economy setting and have found that is adequate most of the time, though when we have 6 - 8 people out on the porch at the same time, we usually change the unit to its cool setting to keep the room at a constant temperature to compensate. Our porch is 14' x 35' and the Frigidaire get the temperature down very quickly and without any apparent difficulty. I will write another review during the winter months, once we have had some experience with the unit's ability to keep the porch warm using the heat strip. For now though, we are very happy with the unit and would recommend it for its very efficient and effective cooling performance. There are couple of negatives that are relatively minor, though they might be a more of a concern to others considering this particular unit. First, it is pretty noisy, not unreasonably so, but noisier than we expected. Since, as I mentioned earlier, we operate the unit on its economy setting most of the time the unit doesn't run constantly so the noise isn't constant. Second, the unit is very heavy. Fortunately, the contractor who closed in the porch for us was present when the unit arrived and helped us put the unit into the wall. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to try to wrestle with the unit alone. I usually wait to do reviews until I have owned a product for at least a year but decided to make an exception because I suspect a lot of people might be looking to purchase a room A/C around this time of year. And, as I said earlier, I will try to do another review this winter and by then will have had considerably more time to assess the unit's performance. Highly recommended.

This is a Great Unit and would recomed it to all for supplmental are full service use.
I love this unit it works great! I also love the way the temperature control works it goes off when its the correct temperature and comes on every now and again to retrieve and room air sample making the temperate control very accurate. This unit works great with the 25K BTU a large unit I purchased first. I live in SC and it was 100 degrees and more for a week and the 25K BTU unit could not handle everything by midday but caught up at night. So I purchased a second unit which was the same manufacture and features a this one the Frigidaire 18,500 BTU once you find the right temperature to set them on they work together supporting one another. No more problems staying ice cold my house was built in 1810 and is about 2000 sqf with 12 foot ceilings I remodeling it and had plan to put a central heat and air unit in which would cost 8-10 thousand dollars now I do not know? These units run pretty quiet , look nice and do the job. On top of that they are both equipped with 16k BTU heater. So with my fire places they will take care of me in the winter also.

IT DOES WHAT I WANTED IT TO DO
When my oil fired floor furnace gave out, being retired, I could not afford to replace it or upgrade to a heat pump system. So I bought this unit. I am very pleased with it. I have the thermostat set at 74 and it heats my + or - 800 square foot house....even when the temperatures get into the 20's and twice into the teens. I have only used the unit on heat mode, so I can't say about the a/c, but it heats my home well.Update.....even after a zero degree temperature outside this morning, this unit kept my house warm. I am very pleased with its performance.

I changed my mind
I chose this unit to heat and cool an area much less than it was rated to cover. It does the job very well and all features work as they should. Documentation was lacking and printing was too small to distinguish the detail of the operation and installation. Also I could not locate certain features of the unit by downloading the manuals.Shipping container was barely adequate and the case was slightly bent. However it works and works well for what I wanted. I would buy it again if I need one. The remote control is a feature that is appreciated very much.I have discovered I received a used or refurbished unit. The A/C side was not required until now and it would not work. The repairman found the unit never could have worked and repairs have been attempted before I received it. Something is awfully wrong here.

Has it's issues. But it heats and cools good.
The thermostat is not reading accurate with the remote controller. Off by 5 degrees. And the seasonal lady bugs can come right through it and into the house.

Very quiet. Cools a large top floor room with no insulation even on 100 deg days
Works very well and is nice and quiet. It is an 18500 BTU unit that replaced a 25 year old 24000 BTU unit. It seems to cool just as well and of course uses 1/3 less electricity. It has a 30 amp plug, which required me to change the socket to match.

A wish for some cold weather so I can test the heater.
If you know anything about December 2015, you know that air conditioners were still in daily use in a good portion of the US. As a result, I have only qualified the unit's cooling ability. The unit has performed satisfactorily. A review of the heating feature must be delayed until we get something besides 80+ degree weather here in Orlando, FL. The remote control feature is a real blessing to me because the unit is installed high in the wall of my workshop and is inaccessible without moving some equipment and using a ladder. I am pleased with the unit, and would recommend it.

Great unit...easy to install.
At first, I was concerned about the heating capabilities of this unit. But, after we finished the walls (R19) and ceiling (R38) the unit was able to heat the 24ftx30ft (10ft H) shop area just fine (in 25-30dgs outside temps (Western MI). It's not a blast of hot air, but more like a steady (room filling) output of warm air that brings the shop to a very comfortable 60dgs in about 30 minutes...tops!I'm looking forward to testing the AC function this summer. I'm sure it will be more than adequate.
