Great!
UPDATE: 11/11/2011I reviewed this product a few months ago, and I'm still keeping my rating. I have seen other reviews that said it stopped working, but they must've thrown away the manual that says to rub some water over it. As you sweat, you will get stuff on the chest strap, and the sensors won't work right. We take warm water with a little salt in it, and put it on. I have also used rubbing alcohol to keep it clean. If it isn't reading right away, I do that and it still works fine. Just wanted to update anyone who had been second guessing buying this because of some of the negative reviews. I will update again in a couple months.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A few weeks ago I bought a fitness watch with a chest strap that was $69.99. I put it on, wrapped the chest strap around me, worked out.... But somehow, even though this was supposedly brand new, I had already burned calories before I put it on... And then I couldn't reset the calorie burn to 0 after a workout. So, I returned it and got my $70 back. I was just going to go ahead and forget the heart rate monitor but I was doing some workout videos and wanted to track my calorie burn. I also was working out on the treadmill and elliptical and just wanted to make sure I was getting an accurate measurement. So, I did an Amazon search. I instantly clicked on this one because it was cheap (after my bad experience with the last one, I didn't want to waste more money). It included a chest strap, which is what I wanted. I just received it today. It was easy enough to set up... Includes a user profile with age and weight (although that is in kg and I am not sure if you can change iit to lbs yet, but a quick Google search to convert lbs to kg was easy enough). The chest strap detected my heart rate instantly. I pushed start on the timer and worked out. I found out during my video that I burned about 60 more calories than a calculator online said, so I was happy about that. It's just great watch, and I am super happy with my purchase. It is a little bulky (I am a woman) but I don't care. I am sure I will just get used to it. It may be cheap, but not cheaply made.By the way, the box said "Simple heart rate monitor" so if you are looking for something super advanced, check out their other products. I am just beginning my exercise routines and I mostly want my heart rate and calories burned, so it is perfect for me.

Useless and defective. Save $25 and avoid this one.
I should have listened to the bad reviews. The watch couldn't pick up any heart rate readings from the belt.Worse, within a short time, the watch completely stopped working. Total blank screen.Hoping that it was just the battery (I don't think it was), I tried to replace the battery, relying on the extremely unhelpful instructions. Unfortunately, to replace that battery, you have to disassemble the watch. I spent half an hour fiddling with lots of extremely tiny screws, set in awkward places, trying to get to the battery case. And I had to do all that with extremely inadequate written instructions for how to put the watch back together again. As it turned out, the watch didn't respond when I started to put a new battery, and I didn't bother finishing putting it back together. Since the entire thing sprung apart and basically disintegrated once the screws were removed, I doubt I could have put it back together anyway. And even if I had succeeded, I wouldn't have looked forward to dismantling and rebuilding the watch every time I wanted to change the battery.Terrible design, with multiple layers of defects. I now have a useless $25 collection of cheap plastic and metal parts (and an uncomfortable chest strap) that I'll have to throw away.I wish I could return it, but I doubt Amazon would allow me to "return" the collection of parts that the watch told me to disassemble it into for replacing the battery. This almost makes me suspect that the bad design is deliberate. In any case, I strongly recommend staying away from this product, and I won't be buying any more products from this company.

Decent BUT I'm fairly certain the calorie count is inflated
My gym was doing promotions for a chest strap that would "motivate and monitor" our progress and effort. I like the idea of quantifying my effort(s) to promote working harder. But I didn't like the idea that I wouldn't have a screen (as at that gym) to watch my heart rate and calories burned. I also wasn't keen to pay $75 for chest strap that -to me-was essentially useless unless I was with the trainers. So I looked into other chest strap monitors that I could wear with a watch and use at bikram, waking on track at work, playing tennis, or otherwise. Yes, directions were a bit cumbersome but with patience, not insurmountable. The watch is a typical stop watch/alarm/heart rate/time device. It is big and cumbersome but I never intended to wear outside of workouts so I can't deduct points for that.Strap is comfortable, adjusts, and mine works fine. I use at least four times a week for sweaty hour plus long interval trainings with personal fitness guide. My only real issue is I'm not sure I'm getting an accurate calories burned read and that's really the brass tax for me. My goal is weightless so I need to gauge my workouts on a calories burned metric. With trainer and rigorous effort, I was getting reads of 650-815 cal/hr. this didn't alert me to any suspicious readings. Quite the opposite--I have been thrilled. But today I walked at a brisk pace (for me that's 3-4 mi/hr) on a flat track for an hour. The reading for calories burned was shy of 600. Considering the device has my age and weight, it's supposed to be pretty accurate for calories burned for cardio exercise. Maybe I'm being too skeptical but seems to me from researching charts online that the total calories burned would be more like 300-350 for my weight and that length of time. The long and short of it is, I care but I don't care enough to return and buy a polar based on a hunch. Perhaps it's a bit of placebo effect but the device is actually motivating me to work harder to keep my heart rate up during work outs nd I love that elation I feel when I check calories burns throughout my workout. It provides incentive and some in time data to motivate me to push a little harder. That's been my experience and assessment thus far, for what it's worth. We will see if the satisfaction continues now that I'm not as trusting of results. I'm just not convinced I'd get a better calories burned from another device since I do believe this strap is accurately reading my heart rate.

Exactly what I was looking for.
This monitor delivered as advertised. I honestly cant find anything to complain about so far. I mean, for less than $40, this HRM is a rockstar. It did everything it says it does. I wanted a relatively inexpensive HRM that accurately measured HR and calories burned, and so far, this one hasnt let me down. The chest strap fits well and stayed put during my intense workout. No slippage. The watch also fits well. I am very pleased with this purchase and I would recommend it to anyone. Read the instructions and take care of it, and you shouldnt have any problems.

Good buy in a budget
Great stuff at a great price. It works absolutely fine, takes a little figuring out time but it's totally worth the money. Polar watches are way expensive for me, but I'm quite glad with this purchase.
