They are good lights but the military grade ones have a longer shelf life

I had one of these that was about to expire in an earthquake kit, so I thought I'd give it a try. It wasn't as bright as other brands I've tried. Plus, the plastic casing seems thinner and not as solid. A great alternative is the Cyalume brand.  Cyalume SnapLight Industrial Grade Light Sticks, Green, 6" Long, 12 Hour Duration (Pack of 10)

My 5-year-old daughter is an Otter in the Baden-Powell Service Association.One of the first things Otters must do is go on a night hike. We took this pack of 20 glow sticks, cracked them and hung them along a path through the woods. The trail was about a half-mile long between the park and the scout master's house. We paired up the Otters, put an adult at the front and one at the back, and had a great hike with green glowing sticks!

Very disappointed. Sub par quality. Don't buy from Amazon. I've purchased thousands of glow sticks since '95 and this was my first order with Amazon. They must have given product which was sitting on the shelf for many many years. They were not as bright as they should be, especially the military grade, nor do they last as long. Buy direct from the manufacturer if you can because they won't screw you.

Good price, great light. Perfect for a bug out bag, emergency kit, or just plain camping. Definitely keeping some of these around for tough times ahead.
