Good vegan protein with an aftertaste that is more or less negligible
On first taste, this would seem to be a 3/5. But believe it or not, I've eaten a lot of these when I couldn't be bothered to get delivery. Yes, they have a weird aftertaste, but you can use a heavy sauce, like taco sauce and it's hardly noticeable. It doesn't upset my stomach, so it's all good in my book.Update: So there's been a change in recipe. Overall, tastes much better. Instead of olive oil (or whatever oil it was), it's now in some tuna-y liquid, very similar to aquafaba. I had two cans so far out of my 12, and really kudos to them, because this tastes really good, and I didn't even bother to use sauce. There's still a slight after-taste, but it's much more negligible this time around, and the texture is almost perfect imo. It's probably not quite as firm as real tuna, but I kind of prefer this softer texture for my teeth. Taste-wise, heck, it's very fishy and I approve.Second Update: Some significant price increase going on, talking about over $10+. I recommend not buying.

New Recipe is *not* “new and improved” 🤮
I LOVED Sophie’s Vegan Toona, and purchased it frequently from a store by my house. The store stopped carrying it, so I decided to purchase online. I got a case of 12 cans. Unbeknownst to me, they drastically altered the recipe since the last time I had purchased in store. It. Is. DISGUSTING. Like, completely inedible, and now I’m stuck with 11 cans of inedible garbage (I opened one can, and realized this was no longer the same product as before). It looks, smells, and tastes nothing like the previous version as photos from another review show. Sophie’s, if you’re reading this, CHANGE YOUR RECIPE BACK!!!! Not even my cats would go near it.

Makes A Great Vegetarian Tuna Melt
The people complaining about this product probably tried to eat it without any seasoning. I also find it of interest that virtually all of the reviewers complaining about this product are not verified purchasers, while those who areverified purchasers have given it a positive review.I made a tuna melt using the following ingredients and it was delicious. The best thing is that this product is made from pea protein which is healthy for you. And unlike eating tuna which loaded with mercury, there are no toxins in this product.I mix a can of Vegantoona with a few teapoons of Filipio Berio olive oil, minced red onion, celery, salt, pepper, and tabasco, then spoon it between two pan fried (fried with Filipio Berio) slices of white bread with melted American cheese, and it is delicious.Remember to drain ALL of the oil that this tuna comes packed in or it will have an adverse affect on the taste of your meal! I wish they packed this food in Filipio Berio instead of the cheaper oil that they pack it in, however, they would raise the price.Highly recommended!

Great taste! Too expensive.
Love the taste, but the price is ridiculous. Sprouts stopped carrying it and instead stocks Tuno, which is cheaper but tastes horrible.

Good taste & texture
I like it but I don't think that it really taste that much like tuna; I am actually happy with this but don't want anyone to be mislead. It is also not too soft or runny like other vegan "tunas" that I have tried of which I have only tried 2 or 3 other brands. I have only tried this flavor and not any others, since this is the flavor I originally found at a local store.

Doesnt taset like Tuna
Texture is good enough, quite salty, flavor is not good. Hard to describe it. Not good even with lots of mayo. Will be a good survival food as we wont us it up. It will need lots of hot sauce, mayo, fresh tomatoes and maybe salsa or Mustard. It is way too expensive to be worth the expense. I will just have to do without tuna.

TOTALLY CHANGED RECIPE! and NOT for the better!!
I have been a fan of this vegan "tunafish" product for several years and ordered in bulk a few times. This last batch however is TOTALLY different in appearance and unfortunately in taste. It looks more like chunky whitefish tuna, but has almost NO FLAVOR... I had to dump extra mayo in it just to add some kind of flavor! Whatever you have done to it Sophie's PLEASE bring back the old recipe which actually had a tuna fish taste to it. Very disappointed!!

Eureka! I have found Toona non fish!
I ordered 12 cans from Amazon. I looked forward to a tuna salad sandwich. I received the cans today. The color and consistently is very good. It is in chunks, like tuna and can be broken down and is close to a tuna taste. I added Veganaise, finely chopped onions and celery, some mustard, pepper and spices. My bagel accepted the toona salad and I settled down to enjoy the Toona. I was surprised to get the same satisfaction from my sandwich as from regular Tuna and no fish was killed. I just received my second order. I am enjoying this product very much.
