It is a very good book but somehow my kid didnt like the story.

An I tereating read and the product was well packed and delivered.

O’Dell’s book is based on the real life story of a Native American woman named Juana Maia, who was left stranded on a tiny island off the coast of California, when hunters invaded the space in search of animal pelts during the 19th century. She lived there by herself for 18 years.The narrative brings attention to what it means to live as one with nature, and how if there is a little bit of patience and understanding we can learn to live off the land without harming it in the process. The protagonist, Karana, undergoes a change in her attitude towards the creatures around her as she fights to survive and to have some companionship, even if it’s in the form of the animals and birds that inhabit the island.This is a good book for tweens and teenagers, especially as a class or book club read as the story brings up a lot of topics for discussion.The story is sad, but also inspiring, and encourages contemplation on our interaction with nature and with each other.Highly recommended for 11-14 year olds!

Excellent novel

Gifted this to my niece.. came in excellent condition.

I read this as a child and never forgot it. I recently reread it and found that it is just as beautiful as I remember. The story is simple yet elegantly written and I would recommend to anyone, young or old.

I purchased this book after reading a review from someone else. it was a story of resilient and courage. I enjoyed reading it very much. I added it to my indigenous stories collection.

Me encanta,todo y el hecho de que este en ingles me hace mas bueno en el idioma, se lo recomiendo a quien tenga un nivel basico-intermedio pues se divertira y sentira triste junto con la protagonista.

Thought provoking, it’s a great read. Suitable for both adults and children from 10yrs upwards. It reinforces that independent, self reliant, creative spirit in us all. A book I would share.It tells about a girl being left behind on an island and how she survives. There are lovely moments she shares with the reader, but also some worrying experiences, as she strives to survive several years alone.

Leichtes Englisch für alle, die ihre Kenntnisse etwas aufpolieren wollen. Dazu erhällt man eine wunderschöne, aber auch traurige Geschichte, nach wahren Begebenheiten. Von mir, beide Daumen nach oben.
