PetSafe Solvit Tagalong Deluxe Pet Car Booster Seat for Dogs, Extra Large

My lhasa apso has always hated being in the car and starts drooling uncontrollably after just a few minutes. I bought this partially to try and alleviate her fear by giving her somewhere comfortable to sit, but mainly I needed somewhere contained and easily cleanable after a car journey as before I had to put down towels and blankets to protect the upholstery. Though it's too early to tell if this has helped with her phobia, she does seem to like the carrier and has even gone to lay in it when it was sat in a corner of the house. The large size appears to me to be a little small for her however she seems to love it. My dog is a slightly larger build for her breed so I imagine it would be fine for an average sized lhasa apso but certainly nothing larger than that. The product is easy to assemble and clearly some thought has gone into the practicality of it as there are holes where needed, velcro pads to secure the inner padding and appropriate straps to secure it to the seat. Overall, a really good product and happy to recommend.

Out puppy was getting really travel sick and was not enjoying being in the car at all. He would cry and whine all the time he was in the car and having made quite a mess of his travel crate a few times (and my car seats!) from travel sickness I looked into other options and gave this a go. He hasn't been sick in the car once since and will quite happily jump into the seat himself, we don't have the carry him kicking and screaming into the car. He spends each journey sitting or lying quietly and is as good as gold. My only critism is that the tethers within the basket are a little on the long side so we have to loop them through his harness and clip them back into the anchor point otherwise he can almost get out of it. We should have probably gone for a smaller size but we are planning to get another puppy next year so it's nice to know we'll have room for two in there.

The positives are: The concept of this is great. It is a bit fiddly to secure around your car seat, but it does provide a great window view for your dog and keeps them secure. The design is nice to look at.The negatives are: although this is advertised as an XL size, it is not. Although the width is a decent size, the depth is quite narrow, so a larger dog is forced to stand sideways (which is not ideal on long journeys). The plastic is hard so if your dog is standing and you brake quickly, I do wonder if it will damage the dog's legs.MOST IMPORTANTLY: I bought this from Amazon Global. I needed the jumbo version as this was far too small for my dog in practice so needed to return it. The return policy is lengthy and expensive. Buying this involved postage and import costs. Returning this involves physically taking it to a postoffice (no home collection) and paying very expensive postage costs which are greater than the cost of the product (Amazon have said they will refund me this but obviously I doubt I will be refunded for the initial postage and import changes initially paid out). So, to summarise - if you are buying this, make sure it is the size you need and that you aim not to have to return it.

I wasn't to sure initially that this would be big enough for my two chihuahuas- however it is the perfect size for them both to sit/lie comfortably together (pic attached) I was debating buying this mainly due to the cost, but honestly if you have small dogs I would say go for it and make the investment because these car seats are a brilliant idea! My two initially were a bit scared to go in there, but after a couple of try's they were fine. They love being able to see out of the window and sunbathe when it's a nice day out! It is also great as an owner to know they are secure as the seat has two adjustable straps inside,with clips to hook onto their harnesses. The seat looks really smart, is easy to take on and off, the cover is removable and washable and it has a zipped pocket in front to store leads etc. I couldn't recommend this product enough!

It’s a really good car seat but I’m very disappointed in the size. I bought this one for my 7kg cockerpoo as the description stated that this would be the right one however she can’t lay down in it and instead her little chin rests on the edge and looks very uncomfortable for her. She can just about squeeze in but I wish I’d bought the size up

Third time lucky! This is the way to travel in a car if you’re a miniature dachshund who likes to watch the world go by!! (He is a mini, just a sturdy one at 6.8kg!) It straps securely to the back seat and has a good strap attached to secure the precious cargo, although at the moment we use a separate strap secured round the head rest, as this boy loves to chew!! He can see out, but the width gives him room to lie down and sleep when he’s a tired sausage. We’ve had no puppy anxiety about car journeys since using this, and it gives plenty of space to add another blank or to keep him happy. We now have one for each car - perfect!

We had the cheaper model of this dog seat and have had 3 years of good use out of it. But sadly one of the metal bars punctured through the fabric and wanting to keep our dog safe decided to buy another. We purchased a different brand just to try another manufacturer but were greatly disappointed and threw it away after 2 weeks. Then googled solvit and purchased the deluxe model. Please continue making these dog car seats as we never want to purchase a different model again. Thank you for thinking about the dog when you design the seats.

Seemed a good buy at first until I fixed it into the car. Unstable in a very big way. I've only got a miniature puppy and the seat kept slipping so much so, that my puppy was lopsided when I was driving and unable to reach her. She also chewed through the belt within days behind my back when I was driving. I dont think that this is a great design by Solvit. Not one of my better purchases.
