Tonka Mighty Motorized Tow Truck Toy Vehicle

I remember having a FAR older model of this tow truck when I was a kid in the 80s. In fact, that model still works and is at my parents house for my son to play with. The same CAN'T be said about this "modern" Tonka tow truck.Most notably how poorly the winch is designed. Within a week, the string slipped in between the side of the spool and the body of the truck wrapping around the axle. After a few weeks of trying to free the string so that the tow hook would work, I broke down and decided to take the toy apart to fix it (thanks AvE). Well, when I flipped the toy upside down to see what screwdriver I would need, i was insulted... triangle drive security screws. What moron makes a toy that breaks so easily but makes it so difficult to fix? I guess the same idiot that makes a toy that breaks so easily I. The first place.Any way after buying a set of triangle drivers, I unscrewed the bottom of the truck and the winch assembly from the top of the body. I lifted the winch spool and slipped the string free. The whole process took about 45 seconds, which is good because I have had to fix the same problem 3 times this week alone.My son loves this tow truck, so it is worth it to keep it around but I would not have bought it of I had known how poorly designed it is. If YOU decide to buy one, buy a set of triangle screw drivers at the same time and make it easy on yourself!

This toy broke five minutes after it was opened. It was the cranking mechanism. I wanted to return it but my son whose child I got it for would not let me. He thought it would be too much trouble for me to return.

It’s OK. But the winch gets stuck. The string wraps around the outside of the winch and if it gets jammed enough like that, it can’t be fixed. This is what has happened to my sons. And the company that made this toy used triangle screws, so my husband can’t take it apart to fix it. He’s not happy about that. Good seller. Just an iffy product I guess. Wish the TONKA company had put some extra effort into this, as it could have been an amazing toy. The winch only lasted my son 4 hours lol. That’s pretty sad and disappointing. So just be aware. But if your sons like mine and it jams and won’t work anymore, he’ll still love playing with it. To avoid it getting jammed, I would recommend this toy for an older child that can learn how to better guide the winch. Like say age 6 and up.

Really disappointed in this product. Bought the first one and not long after the wrench got tangled up where you could reach it. Bought a second one and it came tangled up. I wound up returning the second one. Very disappointing product from a company that usually makes great toys.

You expect Tonka to be rough and ready and this Tonka tow truck doesn't disappoint!! Purchased and given this morning to the 5 year old grandson who has already towed a lot of stuff with it. It is sturdy, and looks like it will last a very long time. Very pleased with my purchase.

Tonka makes great trucks . My children are grown had 5 boys so we’ve had many . I was a bit Leary with it being plastic . It’s sturdy . The line has got twisted a couple of times but leave it to a 5 yr old , he fixed it . No breaks . Grandsons Live this tow truck

Bought this truck for my three-year-old grandson. He absolutely loves the truck and the fact that the wench can go in and out with the controls. But the cord keeps wrapping around the outside of the spool and getting stuck. The toy is only a few weeks old and I have had to mess with it multiple times and it is very difficult to get it untangled. We are very happy with everything else on the truck but the wench has been stuck Again and I haven’t been able to fix it this time. My 3 yr old is very disappointed.

The sturdiness of the toy is great...... but we bought this for our grandson for Christmas and within 30 minutes the tow hook line got stuck around the outside of the spool, which clearly is an easy thing to happen. Of course a child of the recommended age will just keep the motor going and get it stuck more. Can't even fix it because the screws have triangle heads. Piece of junk

My grandson loves this. Always looking for things to put on the hook. Great size and sturdy

The truck is very impressive looking in the box but the quality is lacking. The winch didn’t work right from the start. My husband dissembled the truck and found a broken solder joint that he repaired. The only part of this toy that is “Tonka” is the sticker. The price of $63 is twice as much as it should be.

I ignored the other 2 reviews because they were only 2 reviews, but this truck does not live up to the Tonka name. The winch does not work properly...it goes up but you have to pull on it to go down. One of the black buttons on the side of the truck does not work at all. I personally would not recommend this product.

the speaker doesn't work. I want the noise at theres the slightest sqeak with my ear close to the speaker area. but ya a broken new toy to give to a kid sucks and he enjoys it so I can just take it away.

I purchased this toy for my toddler for Christmas. I purchased this for $125 on Amazon and was shocked at the poor build quality from "Tonka". The entire truck in made from plastic and the winch grinds and barley moves. I was definitely expecting more for my money. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!
