Ei Electronics Smoke Alarm with Smartlink RF Digital Wire Free Interconnection

Looks great compared to the 'traditional' smoke alarm look. I bought 3 of these, the optical version (EI Optical Sensor Smoke Alarm), and a remote control test switch (Aico EI411H RadioLINK Remote Control Switch with Test, Hush & Locate Functions). They all work perfectly with each other without the hassle of hard wiring, and create a completely wireless system without the need to go around reaching up to push the test buttons on individual alarms. The test function on one alarm (or the remote control), will trigger all alarms to enter test mode at once.

Brilliant, easy to install and this type of detector should be used and publicised more widely. No electrician required. Interlink house coding easy and idiot proof. You can add more later if you like. CHANGE THE BATTERY EVERY 12 MONTHS WITHOUT FAIL!.I stick them to the ceiling using sticky fixers( to hold in place temporarily) and No Nails. Big blobs of no nails. Hold for one minute to let the no nails go off a bit. So no drilling either. Simples!

Not had a fire to really test these, however the wireless link functionality appears to work fine via its test button. I use this so I can receive a warning if a fire starts in my garage while I'm in my house. (Garage not attached to property).

These are a bit expensive but you pay extra for the RF link between them. Quite simply if one triggers they all go off within a few seconds of each other. This makes them perfect for areas where you want an early warning, but might not be able to hear a standard alarm because it's in another part of the building.In my case I have two dogs in the kitchen. I place one of these in the utility room where the freezer and boiler is, one in the kitchen (which I remove when cooking) and one in the hallway which I'll easily hear in bed. For me it's important to have as much warning as possible of a fire in remote rooms of my house because of my dogs.Highly recommended.

Bought 4 of these for the downstairs rooms in the house to replace existing alarms that were all nearly 10 years old.I already had a couple of the EI connected alarms upstairs, so connecting the new ones with the existing ones was childsplay. It's a single button inside each alarm that you press to "open up" the network, and as you add each new alarm it beeps to let you know how many are connected - really foolproof.If one alarm sounds, all the rest kick-off as well within a few seconds. By connecting downstairs with upstairs if anything were to happen downstairs the whole house gets set off as well, so you're instantly aware of a problem.

Major advantage is that these can be daisy-chained: we have 5, any one of which will set off the other 4 if it starts firing. So smoke anywhere in the house will alert all alarms & therefore you get good warning. Only 4 stars, though, because this item replaces another which turned faulty only 5 months after installation: its alarm came on falsely (no smoke etc anywhere) setting all others off, making us run around the house with > some anxiety until we established that there was nothing to worry about. It took a lot of searching on Amazon to discover how to claim a replacement under guarantee, but once I'd spoken to a charming & very helpful assitant, the exchange was arranged & the replacement arrived next day.
