A must for the ipad
Just received this item. and I have to say it does what I hoped it would do.If you use your ipad for images alot then you will really appreciate the airstash.I shoot a High MP DSLR and while the images from it look great on my ipad it fills the memory up far to quickly. and of course you cant add to the memory of the ipad .I shoot RAW all the time , but dont want or need RAW files on the ipad. if i insert the memory card into the Airstash and useing the free app it gives you the option to convert to jpeg and send that instead. If you dont know a RAW file contains an embedded jpeg (thats what you see on the review screen of the camera) and most of the later camera contain a full size jpeg. so it just sends the full 18mp jpeg thats in the RAW file from my Canon camera. all the images go straight into the camera roll in the ipad. that bit works a charm . slower than the Camera connection Kit but not as much hassle afterwards. Now the really cool bit.using the airstash app you can send image filse FROM THE IPAD to the airstash. no other device ive come across does this. its always one way traffic only (OK there is the iflash drive but thats fixed memory and expensive for the memory size).it also does the media streaming that many other devices do. so you can stream a movie to your ipad and other devices like an android tab etc.The only downside is you have to be on the airstash's own network (but thats the same with most media streamers)Great device . recommended for anyone who constantly runs the capacity of their device.

Waste of money, product discontinued, no support avialable.
I bought one of these thinking it was the ideal way to get files from my iPad and iPhone to my laptop or GPS devices and back. On paper it sounds great, but a BIG WARNING for all you people thinking of buying these - THESE ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED by Airstash. My device doesn't work with any SD Card. I need to update the firmware. The problem with that is that Maxell have stopped supporting these and Airstash themselves have also stopped supporting these as of 2016. So I now have a useless USB paperweight.Airstash themselves state on their facebook page "Maxell stopped selling it in 2013. Do not purchase units in a Maxell labeled package as they have 2011 firmware that can no longer be updated"In terms of build quality, greatCost, greatUse - useless. It doesn't work and even the manufacturer states we should not buy these as they've stopped supporting them.So what seems like a bargain on Amazon is not. This is worthless!

An Apple a day the Airstash way
This device is a little marvel, up to a point. Okay, it's a premium price, but then it is self contained. I bought this with the idea of using it on holiday, firstly to swap in and out SD cards of photos taken with various cameras, but secondly to watch pre-recorded shows streamed onto my iPad.Using the Airstash to review photos worked well. The device hooks up wirelessly with no trouble at all. It is possible to hot swap SD cards, in other words there's no need to turn the Airstash off before making the switch. Shots can be live previewed, and/or transferred to the Camera Roll (or storage on whatever device you are using it with)and this function was flawless. The same was true with MP3 music files.Trying to watch TV shows was much more difficult. Mostly, down to what formats the IPad would allow and the stupid issue of various purportedly streaming capable apps doing nothing of the sort with the kind of connection the Airstash uses. Basically, MP4 files played perfectly, streamed without any kind of lag, and were a joy to use. Pretty much any AVI, on the other hand, refused to co-operate.Providing you know the shortcomings, and convert required files before trying to use them, the Airstash is an excellent bit of kit, even though Amazon need to get the price down.

Good but the supporting Android app is primitive.
I'm happy with the device, good build quality, feels solid except for the usb cap which has a slight loose fit. Very disappointed with the android version of the app. The iOS version is very good and works seamlessly. The Android app looks like it was developed by my aunt Juddy. I'm using ES File Explorer, connecting via WebDAV. Just go in Network, FTP, New, webdav and under Server type airstash dot net / files. Leave the rest empty and click ok. If you are on iOS just download the app, it works great, the the android app don't bother. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't for that.

Tried both 16GB and 8GB
First and foremost.... It must be clarified that the only difference between the two models is the SD card size which is thrown in the pack.As I was looking to purchase a few 64GB cards anyway, I bought the cheaper 8GB version having earlier bought the more expensive (and faulty) 16GB pack.I spent a little over £51 from Amazon and initially I was extremely disappointed. The device refused to connect. It would power off after 5 seconds, and it seemed to be just an expensive USB adaptor. A little research and reading on the interweb, a quick software/firmware update and everything is now perfect. The unit is quick in wifi mode, and easily accommodates 64GB cards (formatted in FAT32) with a good battery life. The only issue I've had is that securing the Airstash with a Wifi password doesn't play well. I'll keep trying different combinations but for my needs, this is a perfect little gadget which works smoothly with my Samsung Galaxy S3, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7.Top marks, especially for the price I paid.

Data storage for ipad
The Airstash is perfect for storing all my photographs for access by my ipad3. High resolution photos now take up much more room on iPad so the Airstash provides a form of wireless data drive for iPad and other devices. Works out of the box, set up in seconds.
