Direct replacement for aged BRK detector.
Our bungalow was built in 1995 with a hard wired smoke alarm that had become far too sensitive, as they do. To remain within building regs i wanted another hard wired one. Had a look on BRK's web site and found this model was designed as a direct replacement for the one fitted in our house. Comes with an adapter to fit into original sole plate, i did have to fiddle with screw placement a bit and the connecter for the mains supply was a bit fiddly but all up and looks good and NO MORE alarms when simply cooking a bit of toast ! = Happy me.

This was to replace a defective BRK smoke detector (Model 86 RACEN) The old detector was no longer available and this was the replacement that didn't require any alterations to the electrical connection. It does fit within the existing ceiling plate but needs to be secured to it i.e drilled and screwed into the existing plate to secure it. The alarm continued to sound when the test button was pressed and only went off after the mains supply to it was turned off - it did however remain silent once the power was reconnected. If you feel competent the cheaper alternative version wouldn't be too difficult to fit and would save you money aswell.

Quick delivery And Great Replacement.
Bought this item to replace a faulty discontinued BRK 86RACEMP. Read a few of the reviews and was a bit hesitant in purchasing the 7010B. Finally ordered it and within days the units quickly arrived. The boxes contained the detectors themselves as well as a bracket that can be easily added to the existent pattress. The unit also came with 9v batteries. The wiring loom is the same so it was really simple to connect and attach to the pattress with the new bracket and within 5 minutes it was up and running. I bought two and am really pleased with them. The unit lets off a continuous green light and once a minute flashes red to show everything is working. So far so good.

The same make and model (three of them) were installed in my house 10 years ago. They went past their 10 year expiry date, so I ordered these in order to replace them. They were easy to install because the wiring etc had already been done (they are hard wired in so that if one alarm goes off all three go off, covering all floors of the house). The only issue I have ever had (with the old ones) is that they occasionally "chirp" or single bleep for no apparent reason - atmospheric pressure has been the best guess as it seems to happen in the summer when a storm is in the vicinity.

Great replacement for wired racen 86 alarm
Great replacement for an aging racen 86 wired smoke alarm. No rewiring required. The connector on the new alarm fitted. I did have to replace the base plate which was straight forward. Isolated power to alarm, removed old alarm, changed the base plate and then refitted the new alarm. Works a treat.

Easy replacement for discontinued BRK models
Bought a pair of these to replace 15 year old ones in my daughters house. Her current detectors were discontinued but all the reviews suggested that this was an easy fit with no messing about with re-wiring. The whole job took about half an hour which included removing the old ones and attaching these to the ceiling

Don’t trust BRK
Having consulted the manufacturer before buying, I was assured that this item would fit my existing base plate. Several weeks and several emails later, I find that it doesn’t fit the existing base plate. I have now manufactured my own interface which should allow me to finish the job. I could of course have purchased a new base plate to suit this item but at a cost around £65. Very poor performance from BRK who were provided with photographs of what I was actually working with right from day one.
