Does what it is supposed to do
Well, this is a pair of speakers stands , so let's face it, it is not like a space shuttle.It is sleek, and I am not horrified to see them near the chairs when we watch a movie (we use them for the rear speakers)They are easy to set up. Set up is too big of a word to describe what you do: unscrew manually, pick the height, tighten.The speakers are easily attached to those stands. The bracket is open enough that you can easily secure the speaker to the stand, whether you are allergic to tools or have the biggest fingers on Earth.The stands are very light, to the point that we position the stands everytime we watch a movie and movie it on the side when we don't.It is surprisingly stable. We have 2 kids, and many of their little friends that rough house around them and never had a problem. We also have 2 cats that love chasing and a big dog that is quite a tail wagger, but again those stands can take it.We have own those stands for over 3 years, and I am happy- although surprised- to say that there is not even a hint of a scratch.I thought the price was really good.

There's enough mounting options that you can securely mount and place your speaker to the stand
I was looking for stands for a pair of older KLH wood case surround-sound speakers I'm using as rear surround speakers. I choose these speaker stands for their specs, good reviews and low price. When I opened the box, I was impressed with how heavy and solid the stand is. Granted, it is not heavy enough to withstand someone stumbling into it, and it is gong to be less secure on carpeted floor than tile or wood floor.Because of the room and furniture configuration where my home theater setup is, I have to place these behind a sofa on a carpeted floor. One end of the sofa was about 4 inches from a half wall, and these speakers have to face forward, sending sound into the back of whoever is sitting in the sofa. Our kitchen table is about 3.5 to 4 feet away from the back of the sofa. If these speakers plus stand were to be free standing, the one that's not behind the half wall will likely get knock over weekly.The base is shaped like the Greek Lambda(a 3-leg starfish), so instead of arranging the speaker and pole in the recommended position, I rotated the pole 180 degrees and tucked the starfish-like leg of the base where the pole is screwed in under my sofa. The other two starfish-like legs of the base extends out of the sofa serves to hold the pole and speakers up should someone accidentally knock the speakers backward. Despite the carpeted floor, we've yet to knock the speaker over. With the recommended orientation of the speaker (with respect to base of the stand), you can probably still tuck two legs of the base under the sofa to brace it from tipping and get a more pleasing speaker arrangement.Our Audio/Video receiver (as with most recent receivers) has an auto speaker calibration wizard that, when combined with a speaker place where the listener is seating, adjust the volume of each speaker for where the listeners will be sitting. So, no problem there.

Excellent Stands
I rate these speaker stands 4.5 out of 5.0 (but that's not an option on the pull-down menu). They're definitely better than 4.These are well designed, high-quality speaker stands at a very low price. The speaker height can be adjusted with the stands' telescopic poles. Many people would be surprised at how much better their sound is when the speakers are at the right height and positioned properly for the room's/setup's accoustics. I was (almost literally) blown away by how much better my THX 5.1 speaker system sounded with seemingly minor position adjustments.They are medium-to-light gray with a quality matte metal finish. They look and feel like they're well made. But you might need to go to the hardware store to buy screws and matching nuts to properly secure the speakers to the stand platforms. They include two-sided tape and a variety of screws, but oddly don't include any nuts, which my particular speakers needed. The platform comes with a simply designed support bracket that allows most sattelite speakers to fit and be nicely balance balanced without necessarily being attached. The two-sided tape (or a twist-tie, for that matter) should be enough to hold the speakers if there aren't any rowdy lifeforms in the vicinity.The speaker wire can be run through the center of the telescopic pole, further adding to the clean and contemporary aesthetics.Of minor note - One of the stand's bases was missing its "Atlantic" decal plate. I found it stuck to the plastic wrapping that the stand came in and put it back on. No big deal.Overall, these stands are a very good value at under $40 and a fantastic value under $30.

Good Value, Bad Speaker Mounting Design
These stands are probably half the price of stands that you would buy in a place like Circuit City or Best Buy. They are also easy to assemble, look good and are of good quality. However my pet peeve is that the design for mounting the speakers was not thought out very well! My speakers, and I imagine many other types of speakers, could not be mounted on these stands. They included some adhesive tape that will allow you to mount your speakers, but if they designed the mounts properly in the first place you wouldn't need the tape!
