A fantastic watch, accurate, rugged, stylish
This is a fantastic watch. It's the second Seiko solar I've owned. After more than 6 years of keeping almost perfect time, the first one unexpectedly stopped, so I ordered a new one. But when I was looking at the old one, I gave it a slight tap on a table and it started running again! It turns out that the crystal I had damaged by hitting it hard against something left a tiny chip inside the watch. That chip had gotten lodged under the second hand and stopped the watch. By tapping it I dislodged chip. I had the crystal replaced and it's still running perfectly weeks later. (I like the look of the new one, so I kept it too. ) Those who say these watches don't keep good time are mistaken. Both my solar Seikos have been tracking the time exactly and accurately. And after I initially charged my first one after I bought it by keeping exposed to sunlight for a day, I never had to charge it again for 6 years. I just wore it, no maintenance, cleaning, no nothing. It's now my work watch and the new one my dress watch. These are fine watches for the money. My sole issue is the month function stays accurate only in months with 31 days. In months with fewer days you have to reset them at the end of the month by moving them ahead. Resetting five times a year is not a lot to complain about!

Reliable, affordable, stylish black(-ish) watch
I’ve been eyeing up a black on black watch for a while now. I saw this, dug the style and so I bought this for myself as a late birthday gift. I like the fact that it’s solar, so no batteries needed. That’s good since I probably won’t wear it every day so I don’t need to worry about it winding down like an automatic and I won’t have the additional cost of batteries. So far, it seems to charge and hold a charge well. Keeps time perfectly. A charge gauge would be nice but would detract from the elegant simplicity of the face. The watch color does not make it hard to read except in very low light situations or in the dark. Speaking of the color, other reviewers claim it’s more gunmetal than black and I think I’d disagree. The band is not pitch black but is definitely darker than gunmetal. I like the mostly matte finish too. That helps it look darker at a glance. The band is very easy to resize and is very comfortable. The watch feels hefty in a good way but not cumbersome. I can tell it’s a quality watch just by the feel. Doesn’t feel cheap or too light. I’d expect nothing but reliable performance from Seiko and I already know that’s exactly what I’ll get with this great looking watch.

Definitely a Class Act
I have owned Seiko watches fo many years, but this is something different. The mixed reviews I read hinted at the possibility of a difficult to read watch, but after getting this, I find that the whiners are spoiled -- all you have to do is move your wrist back and forth in the ambient light, catch a few reflections, and the time reveals itself, unless of course you are an idiot and cannot tell time on a non-digital watch. It is a beautiful design, and the more I use it, the more I appreciate it. As for functionality, I was originally looking for a solar watch, only because I am tired of always having to change the battery. Again, I am delighted; the accuracy is astounding, and I find that just keeping it out in the room light instead of a dark drawer is enough to keep it charged. Another thing I really like is the heavy weight. The strap alone weighs enough to attest to the masculinity of the device, and the links were easy to remove for resizing. I own another solar watch... a Casio, which is really easy to read under most any light conditions, and it has the day as well as the date, along with a beautiful crystal, plus it periodically receives a signal from an atomic clock that resets it, but even with all that, I still like the Seiko better.

Great value.
I just wanted to comment on previous reviews about the watch being difficult to read. When it first came and I got it out of the box it seemed dim to me. But after allowing it to fully charge per the instructions for charging this solar powered watch it appears to be just fine. The directions say nothing about charging having anything to do with making it more readable but, it seems it did to me. Just a note, I am a senior citizen but I have never needed reading glasses and I can read this watch just fine albeit less readable than most watches. It is a very nice looking watch and I am pleased with my purchase especially for this price.

Very Stylish
I like the dark grey stealth look and slim profile. It looks great when wearing business casual or even a suit. Although the hands are not illuminated, I've found that it is not too difficult to read in low light conditions by tilting it slightly so the hands reflect some light.Although some reviewers said theirs does not keep time, mine is quite accurate for not being an atomic watch. I set the time 2 1/2 weeks ago when I first received it and I just checked the time with an atomic watch. It is still within 3 seconds of the correct time. Very pleased with this.

Love this watch but can't read it when dark out
Absolutely love the look of this watch. Solidly built. Has nice weight to it. Keeps great time. Holds a charge for a long time and love that it's solar. Get tons of compliments on it.Why they didn't illuminate the hands and the numbers though is beyond me. You cannot make out the time in poor lighting or the dark. I literally have to use my cell phone face light to check the time and by that point I may has we'll have just used the time off my phone.

Very Hard to Read
Readability 1-Star, Accuracy - Haven’t owned long enough to know, Value - 3-StarsI own several Seiko watches andI expect this one to live up to Seiko’s reputatuion of quality fir the money.I realized when I selected the watch that it was black on black. But the online photos of it made it look readable. This didn’t turn out t be the case. This is a great looking watch, unfortunately it is extremely difficult to see the time except in very brightly light. Oh well, live and learn.

Seiko watck
This is a good looking watch. It charged quickly and kept accurate time. We will need to wait a couple of years to see if this watch was worth the money. There is no way to provide good information on a watch we bought 2 weeks ago. It didn't break in 2 weeks so that is good. I expect this watch to last like the Seiko watch I gave my husband 40 years ago.

Simply stunning
I bought this watch a while ago and I love it. The black on black makes it simple but bold at the same time. It is very elegant and also very nice to wear. It is not to heavy on the wrist. With this watch, you'll get:A very nice brushed black stainless steel oyster strap, completed by a deployment clasp with "Seiko* engraved on it.The solar powered movement won't let you down like a battery would. The watch charges itself and has a decent autonomy (if you leave it in the drawer).Very nice black dauphine hands (hours, minutes) along with a grey second hand. The black dial has the date (in white) at the 3-hour spot and has black glossy bars as time marker. The 41mm case is not too big, not too large, just perfect. It is, once again brushed black stainless steel case with silver back. Seiko is also engraved on the back along with the modele number. There are 4 tiny screws holding the strap. It is 10mm thick.Overall, there's nothing to improve and that's a highly recommend product.

Simple but Stylish Design
Beautiful watch, simple design that makes it look really classy. I purchased this for my son who just loves it and unlike other reviewer, my son has no issues reading the time. It's a very classy, minimalist design.

3 year review
Update after 3 years of ownership:Watch is still in great shape, few scuffs or scratches. One of the best looking watches I've owned and, unquestionably, the most accurate. Every time I check it it never seems to need to be adjusted.= = =I've had this watch now for three years and I'm continuing to be completely happy with it. It always keeps amazing time - still recommend it very highly!
