One year with the Rogue
Living in North Carolina, I have thousands of miles of mountain bike trails throughout the state and the one thing I never want to be without is water. When I first started riding, I tried taking a single water bottle, only to drink it all in less than an hour on hot summer days.Cutting your ride short because you run out of water is never fun, and I felt it was time to get serious and invest in a hydration pack. CamelBak is a brand that has been around since 1988, and they are known for making packs specifically for mountain biking. The CamelBak Rogue is the one I went with and have used it on every ride I've been on since it arrived. The CamelBak Rogue features an 85oz reservoir, Leak-Proof On/Off Valves, a top zippered pocket, and a bottom pocket perfect for your car keys, a multi-tool, or anything else you need to carry that's small. The back flap lifts up to expose the hydration bladder which features a large cap that CamelBak touts as an "Easy-Open Leak-Proof Cap." They claim, "it is redesigned for easier refilling and seals shut in just a few twists."Even though CamelBak claims it's made for easier refilling and shuts better, I found that not to be the case. I typically fill the bladder by using a refrigerator and with the way it's positioned it almost always makes a mess. The plastic around the cap is so large that it makes it challenging to unpress the water dispenser, so it stops before spilling water outside the hole. The leak-proof cap is also not as _easy_ as they claim. Because it shuts in just a few twists, you have to be very careful to get the threads lined up; otherwise, it will leak. I caused a few messes for this very reason.Everything from the fabric, to the stitching, is solid, and the Rogue is a sturdy pack. After a year of heavy use, it's held up surprisingly well even with all the mud rides. Another nice feature is the hydration bladder is removable, and the outside is washable. That is great for keeping it clean and keeping those nasty smells from riding in the hot sun away. The bite valve is large comes with a locking mechanism so you can be certain no water will spill out. Without it in the lock position water will come out even while riding, so I leave mine in the locked position until I'm ready for a drink.I find the tube that runs from the bladder to the valve to be extremely long. I'm a short guy at 5'5" and at times I've wanted to cut part of the hose off just so I didn't have to keep stuffing the excess back into the pouch. As I mentioned earlier I've used this pack for every ride and having it with me is part of my routine. I've done everything from three to four hour-long rides to quick 3 milers at lunch, and it performs excellently. I've even taken a few hard falls and even lightly separated my shoulder while wearing this pack and it still feels as solid as the first day I tried it.Overall I do recommend the CamelBak Rogue hydration pack, and I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone to get this pack. I would, of course, mention that they should look out for the cap and to be sure they have it threaded correctly, but otherwise it's a great hydration pack.Pros:* Cost* Quality Construction* Easy to use bite valveCons:* Filler cap needs more threads* Long Hose

Good but not Great.
This is my fourth Camelbak hydration pack. Loved my other three for mtb riding, they were the MULE 3 L size. The first was replaced by Camelbak under warranty and the second was torn in an accident. I still own a MULE pack for mtb rides but I also need a smaller one for my gravel rides. A 3L reservoir is too large and cumbersome, plus I need access to my jersey pockets which the MULE doesn't allow. The Rogue fits great on my back, allows access to my jersey pockets, provides additional storage compartments and is able to carry enough water that I need. Also the new Crux reservoir delivers great volume of water with each sipThere are two things that I just don't like about this pack. First is that the siphon tube is not removable from the reservoir, so cleaning and airing the reservoir is more difficult than the other reservoirs Camelbak has designed. Camelbak just saved money by providing this Crux reservoir without a detachable siphon. Secondly the reservoir is held in place by just an elastic strap, which makes the pack seem cheap. Instead of the elastic it should have a zippered pouch like my other Packs to hold and accces the reservoir. It is really challenging to install the filled reservoir into the small opening provided. You have to twist and squeeze the reservoir to make it fit. Annoying to say the least. If it wasn't for those two complaints this pack would be perfect.

It doesn't hold water
I should have read the reviews before I ordered. I had owned three Rogues prior to purchasing this one, and had been happy with all of them. But when I filled this new Rogue, the water just poured out of the sealed cap. Not a few drops, a stream of water! It is pretty obvious this is a much cheaper build than my 2011 model, less padding, thinner straps, unusable clip, but I could have lived with that if it held water! Returned it immediately.

super light weight for what it is
Bought this for for the spartan beast - I tried the 1.5L/50oz Crux version first , but exchanged for this - needed 2.5L which lasts the whole race and saves lining up for water. Plus this one has enough storage for couple of energy bars , phone , gloves. super light weight for what it is. . only negative is the tube flaps around a bit - but thats a minor detail.

Poor quality compare to older versions, leaks
The new version of the rogue has been a disappointment. The bite valve leaks constantly. The reservoir cap needs to be tightened precisely and extremely tight otherwise it leaks as well (another reviewer noted how difficult it is to get the cap lined up). The padding on the straps is lighter, making it less comfortable. Seems like a lot of cost cutting at the expense of quality. I suggest buying the old version while they're still available.

Small, but Great
I bought this for Coachella and it was great! It is pretty small, so I wouldn't expect to use it for a long hiking trip or anything, but two of us used it for the weekend and we filled it up a few times per day at the refresh stations. It was easy to remove and clean the bladder. Overall, I would highly recommend.

Not as described but good.
This is a decent pack, but in the item's description, it says "Magnetic Tube Trap keeps your tube secure and accessible when you need it External hooks let you carry your helmet while still allowing full access to your pack"Neither of these features exists on this pack.It is a pretty good pack. It's on the small size, but that's what I was looking for-- something small that would fit bike tools, hold a lot of water, and have room for snacks. It fits that requirement well.
