Simple but accurate; technique matters
I am a clinical pharmacist and I bought this primarily to show my patients how to check their blood pressure (BP) at home. I have seen quite a few BP machines my patients use and I usually check the machine readings against my own which is done manually. The HEM-712C is one that is inexpensive but gives accurate readings. Do keep in mind that the literature suggests that most machines made after 2000 should be accurate and technique matters more:1) Know how to use your machine. Read the manual.2) Sit down for a least 5 minutes before checking your BP3) Do not talk while checking BP. The sensor can pick up the vibration4) When you are have a full stomach, or need to go to the restroom, readings are not accurate5) Do not wear tight clothing or cross your legs when checking BP(Note: wrist and finger BP machine are generally not as accurate)Addendum (5/13/2012):There are many iterations of the HEM-712C, with some re-branded by other companies. They all generally has the same good accuracy, whether they are older or newer models, from my experience validating them for my patients. The newer models that appears in the past couple of years appear to be just as accurate. There is no need to get the more expensive models, which only offer more functions. Some more expensive models offer two cuff sizes, large and regular, which may be useful for household with different arm sizes.

Omron BP
Have had the Omron for about 3 weeks now and no problems. Quality seems good. The readings seem consistant with BP taken in store pharmacy's. It seems pretty accurate and easy to use. I would recommend it to a friend - price was right. If you have BP concerns it is convenient to be able to take a few readings a day and see what is going on. Interesting how your BP can vary with a salty meal, exercise or stress. To have a BP machine available is handy to see how things affect your body.

great device
I was ordered to get a home monitoring device by my doctor. Every time I go they say I have high blood pressure. I never get high readings when I go to those machines at the stores or have a cute fireman take it. Anyway, I got this machine because I did not want to spend too much money on one of these and Amazon had some good prices, plus I had coupons for the site. So I got this pretty inexpensively. But I think this product is great for its price and I don't have any problem with it. It is easy to use, easy to read, easy to manage. I think it's great. I also found out that I don't have high blood pressure, but rather just suffer from white coat syndrome That is where your blood pressure is up cause you are nervous at the doctor's office. I don't think I get nervous. I think my blood pressure goes up because when I am there, I have to wait 40 minutes to an hour to be called back to see the doctor. I hate someone wasting my time. Then the first thing they do is put you on a scale to weigh you. Am I supposed to be relaxed when you just told me I am overweight???

Switched from 7 series to this machine
I had been using an Omron 7 series BP 760, after a year of use though, it began to give me erratic readings. After reading review after review, I decided to go more simplistic. This machine has not let me down. The readings are spot on with how I am feeling and what I'm getting at the doctor's office. I fit the minimum measurement for the cuff, but it is perfect (The ComFit cuff ended up stretching out to be too big). It took a little of getting used to putting on the soft cuff, but it's a piece of cake once you find your groove. The cuff is not nearly as soft and comfortable as the ComFit, it is much more scratchy and rough with direct contact to the arm, but the velcro is stronger.I'm overall, very satisfied that I "downgraded" instead of buying into the 9 series hype. This machine is basic, but it does the job. I do not need the memory function, but it is a nice thing to have.

A Great Product for This Price
This is the best blood pressure monitor I have owned so far. It took me a couple of tries to figure out how tight the cuff needs to be, and since then it has worked perfectly. The readings are very accurate. The monitor stores the most recent readings in its memory. Since the monitor is very small and light, you can take it to your doctor on your next visit and let them see your readings directly from the monitor.I have a fairly extensive experience with BP monitors, and at this point this is my favorite one for use at home. A great product for the price!

A bit of a disappointment...
My wife uses this device as part of her evaluation of the BP of her clients for personal training orientation. The product itself works fine and is simple to use. The instructions are clear and you quickly gain confidence using the product. It is battery operated which is perfect as my wife needs the mobility to the client's location. Overall it is a product that appears to provide what it advertises without too much fuss.My issue is that the device seems to have been a returned item. It was properly boxed, but there were minor scratches in the front making it appear used. Since my wife needed it immediately for a client, we chose not to return it, but that would have been our preference. We both feel we didn't get what we paid for, but due to the need, we accepted what we got.

Disappointed
I was disappointed with this product. The cuff was ultimately too small and kept popping open which only got me frustrated which ultimately would increase my blood pressure. I couldn't get an accurate reading because the cuff size was too small. This probably would have been a good product for me if the cuff had fit. Omron does make the best machines so if you do have a small arm, it would probably work very well. I did return the product for a different Omron machine with a larger cuff which did work for me and which I am satisfied.
