Absolutely love this thing
Despite Humbuckergate, I love this bass. I put D'Addario chrome, short-scale flatwounds on it and they fit perfectly. Sounds way better than my Fender mini precision. The 1/4" cable input is loose, and Gretsch has provided me with authorized repair services in my area. I even found its custom case, right here on Amazon.

Nice easy feel. Good fit and finish
Nice fit and finish . Nice easy neck. The pickups are fine, no noise, front is ballsy, rear is weak as usual. Together they are ok. The set up out of the box was good but could be a bit lower. I adjusted the neck to straighten it a bit when I put on some Diadarrio flatwounds and lowered the action a bit. FYI Diaddario short scale chrome flat wounds fit perfect. I was told they were going to be too short but no, they fit perfect.4 stars for now, maybe more maybe less over a little time.Overall feels, looks and sounds good. The picture shows how the new strings fit right.Update. I swapped put the generic .047 green "chicklet" capacitor for an orange Sprague .068 capacitor that I bought from Axeginderz . I had done this previously with a fender p bass and bronco bass that i used to have. Some might not notice a difference but I hear a smoother vintage like tone with the tone knob all the way off. And also with the tone on it just seems to help give less expensive pickups a smoother tone.I prefer this bass using the front pickup only and the tone all the way off, vintagey. Sometimes both pickups.Overall a good feel BUT maybe about $40-$50 overpriced.

Perfect
After playing a cheap Chinese bass I switched to the Gretsch. I love the short scale. I love that it's intonated from the factory. I love that the action is set correctly. Only thing I'm changing is putting some tapewounds on it, but that's personal preference.TLDR:I love it and I want to have it's babies.

Do not, for any reason, buy anything from Adorama corp. Customer service is non-existent.
The product is/was a Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II. It was advertised in comparison to sellers and other guitars. Their two main selling points were superior pickups and superior fretboard material. Neither of which turned out to be true. The problem is not the blatantly false advertising, it is the complete lack of customer support when trying to address the issue. Unless your experience is different from mine, if you buy something from them, whatever arrives, in whatever condition, is what you are stuck with. It is not a purchase, it is a gamble.

Very Poor Quality Control, Wrong Pickup Installed
I was looking for a short scale bass and there are not many out there to choose from. There are a few low to mid level short scales that just look stupid funky for some reason, or there are very expensive used vintage or higher end short scale basses. I own several basses that range from inexpensive to fully custom made, but I didn't own a short scale and wanted one without breaking the bank. The Gretsch G2220 looks great and has decent playability for a lower end bass, hence the 2 stars. So here is what is wrong with it.... Basses with 2 pickups typically have a neck position and a bridge position pickup and there are differences between the two. This bass sounded like @ss to my ears, so I pulled the pickups to see if I noticed anything out of the ordinary. As you can see from my photo, they installed 2 bridge pickups. Gretsch, or I should say Fender now is fully aware of this issue as well as another major issue I will get to next. I looked on line and found others who discovered the two bridge pickups and complained to Fender and they sent them the correct replacement pickups. They are definitely aware of this issue, but these are still out in the market like this. Then the other pickup issue... They originally advertised this bass as having mini humbucker pickups, then were found out by consumers to actually be single coil pickups. They were called out on this and while their website was changed and now specifies "Single-Coil" pickups, most retailers still show them as mini humbucker. Just know you may not be getting what is advertised depending on where you buy it. Lastly, the tone control does not increase the treble gradually. It seems to be either on or off. All the way down or full treble and nothing in-between. These issues may not be a big deal or even noticeable to the beginner or novice player, but I have been playing bass for over 30 years and have owned dozens of basses. Perhaps they are marketing this to beginners and know they may not care or notice, but just be aware you are not getting what is advertised and not what I would expect from name brands like Gretsch/Fender.
