Excellent laptop
Excellent value for money.Excellent display quality.Excellent audio.Haven't used it for gaming so not sure about the performance limits. But so far (1 month) for regular use, its a great machine. Silent and doesn't heat up. Boots and shut downs are fast.Poor to average battery backup. Since i am not gaming or running heavy software, i was barely okay with the backup. But battery will run out sooner for heavier CPU usage. So overall poor battery backup.

This thing ran Photoshop like a pro brand new
This thing ran Photoshop like a pro brand new. After about a year or two it's starting to slow down and show its age though.

One Star
The keyboard stopped working properly.

Pretty. . .But...
A nice looking laptop but it acts like it has multiple poltergeist. Updating all software is reducing the problem: It still may need to be exchanged.

but otherwise it runs nicely. Not meant for gaming
It was refurbished, so there were some marks, but otherwise it runs nicely. Not meant for gaming, of course.

This is a great value.
I am not a gamer so I have no report on that, but the things I have tried that may interest you:HDMI out to a 4K monitor worked effortlessly.Running linux Ubuntu in VMWare is very zippy. It's good enough to stay there most of the time.Touchscreen for Windows 8.1 Metro is nice to have.I plan to install Cubase and use the touch screen for a more natural interface for controls and sliders...we'll see how that works.24 Hours and so far so good. There is a 90 day warranty, but if you are worried about the refurb being risky you can purchase an extended warranty for 2 years at about $230 directly from HP. You will stil be coming in at less than a new retail unit with the same specs.

Extremely fast with SSD + Ubuntu
This thing is fast; very happy with it so far. But I'm running Ubuntu 14.04; I only booted it once under Windows 8 - just long enough to create an Ubuntu install disc.I also installed a Samsung 256GB SSD. That's probably a big factor in why this machine is so fast, but it is indeed exceptionally fast with the Ubuntu + SSD combo. I should also note that the installation process for Ubuntu was seamless. Everything just worked (except I have some config to do in order to get the Beats Audio to work better, I think). So why only 4 stars?1) This machine is not designed for easily upgradable hardware. Swapping the spinning hard-drive for an SSD was a pain. It involves 25 screws, and carefully prying the top cover off, releasing 7 ribbon cables, etc. While straightforward, I wouldn't recommend doing so for someone with zero experience taking computers apart. This is in contrast to most big laptops these days which *are* designed to easily upgrade drives, ram, etc.2) I hate the fact that the up and down arrow keys are half-height. C'mon, HP....arrow keys are some of the most used keys. Make all four of them normal size!3) Lots of glare on the screen in a bright room. All in all, very happy with the purchase and SSD+Ubuntu combo.

Love the computer as such
Love the computer as such, but I hate the touchpad. I have used several laptops but this is the worst touchpad. I have upgraded it from windows 9 to 10, tried to change the drivers and whatnot, however, it is such a pain to use the touchpad. Sometimes, the I can see the cursor doing random things even when I am not playing with the touchpad, this seems really wierd too. Secondly, the battery is attorcious! One of my main concerns was batttery so I looked around the reviews for this. Most of them donot seeem to have any trouble with battery life, but for me it is not working. I have a 3 year warrantly and if I find that the battery life is really bad, I may contact them. What I love is the touch screen. It is really bright crispy and sharp. I also like the large key board and cool design of the laptop. The beatsaudio is also really good. The performance of the laptop is good and for the money and the amount of ram, I expect that. Overall it is a good laptop, but the touchpad and battery life is a serioius drawback and for anyone looking for a professional laptop I wouldnt recommend this, but for someone who uses the touchscreen a lot and uses it to watch movies or surf net at home, I recommend this.
