If you really intend to become fluent, this is a necessary text.Schaums Outline is great, but this gives so much profound nuance, is great concise form. Pity that I already bought the awful 'Troika.'Academia seems to dumb down teaching languages, so student must pay for more courses. Why else would academe push such trash, as Troika?

like it way better than my last russian textbook

This textbook is much more helpful than others of its type. It provides much more practical instruction relevant to a general audience, whereas so many other college textbooks are almost exclusively geared toward academic life.

Easily accessible and very handy.

Adequate text for learning russian. Oddly structured at times

Looking for a language to learn? Pick anything other than Russian. I’m a Junior Biochem major in my third semester of Russian at Baylor University and I’m going to tell you the cold hard truth. This is not an easy language to learn. Russian is easily the most difficult class I take and I spend 4x more on it than any other subject. This isn’t a self study book. We use it for our Intermediate Russian textbook which is taught by a native speaker of Russian. I recommend Spanish, sign language or even better a university without a language requirement.

It came stained with a mysterious brown substance and my cat is obsessed with it. Like she won’t leave the book alone. I would love to know what it’s stained with, and if that’s the reason my cat is obsessed with it. Other than that great textbook.

Excellent text at an intermediate level. Introduces contemporary language needed for basic conversations about activities of everyday life. Gives some background on Russian culture and history.
