Best All-Around High End Paper Folder
I have a graphic arts and printing class at my high school and the Formax FD 38x has added a whole new dimension to what we can do as an in-school business. I searched and searched, and while this paper folder is expensive, it is the best buy on the market. First, its build quality is fantastic. It is meant to last a long, long time. Second, it is fast. Rated at 20,100 sheets per hour, it is one of the fastest friction feed paper folders there is. Third, it has a dedicated slot for taking and folding multiple sheets with staples. This is a rarity in a folding machine of this caliber. As a teacher, I find this aspect extremely useful. Forth, it can do right angle folds for two-fold projects and has a special adapter for this. Fifth, it can take sheets up to 12 x 18, and card stock up to 300 gsm. Sixth, it is programable and has all the features expected of a fully-automatic paper folder, including a 6-digit counter. Finally, it has a great telescoping paper receiver that can hold up to 500 folded sheets. The only real downside for me is that it doesn't perform as well on really slick glossy stock, something that works better with an air-suction folder. Still, it does a great job with most glossy paper. Also, the price is an obstacle. At close to $4500, it is an investment. If you are folding 1000-3000 sheets at a time though, this is a fantastic machine.
