Great tool
I've heard people say it's not necessary, or really no better or faster than a utility knife. That may be true if you're a professional drywaller and do it everyday. But I bought this tool because I was refinishing the basement in my 1974 house. Due to settling a lot of trimming is needed. I find this tool to be infinitely better than using a utility knife and so much faster. I still use a knife if I just need to trim a little off the end but for making actual cuts in drywall I love this thing. I almost didn't buy this tool because I thought it might be just a gimmick. Not so, it works as advertised. The ONLY issue I've had is when you are first beginning or finishing the cut it can be hard to keep the line straight. But this is only because you can't see where the cut is going yet because it hasn't started and has nothing to do with the tool itself.

Great Tool
We purchased one of these at Lowes or HD several years ago and it was lost during a recent move. Would not think of cutting drywall without this tool. Went to Lowes and HD and couldn't find it so naturally our next step was shop Amazon. Once you master the use of this which has a slight learning curve, this works great. There is a pointed guide at the front end that helps you make accurate cuts along your marked line. It has such a strong magnet that if the separator part gets pushed down, you have to use a screwdriver or some similar tool to pry apart but once you get use to using this tool, that situation doesn't happen very often. I even taught my 14 yr old grandson to use this and could leave him alone because I knew there was no chance of him getting cut like it would be with a normal box cutter. Try it, you will like it.

disappointing
Every time i finish the cut thru the sheet, the two halves of the cutter slam together by their magnets and need to be pried apart before another cut can be done. This is really difficult as the magnets are very strong. All the literature and product details i read forgot to mention this, but now ive experienced it i have now googled the problem and found it is common. It really makes the tool unusable. Its a real shame as i was really looking forward to buying one of these tools but after trying it 4 or 5 times, i will just go back to a utility knife. Sorry to report this, but im sorry i bought it.

I didnt save any time with the device with all the time I had to spend to fix it!!!
I guess I had high hopes for this cutter. I HATE cutting drywall and I thought this would make things a little easier. It did cut the drywall but the issue was that once you came to the end of the drywall you can't see the line you are following because the cutter is covering it. There IS a guide on the front of the cutter so you can follow the line you have marked but there is NO guide on the back so you can follow it once you get to the end of the drywall. Basically when there is no way to judge the line from the front there is no guide on the back to make sure you are following the line. This is very annoying. The dealbreaker for me was when you got to the end of the drywall and the cutter would come back together, no matter how fast I tried it or how slow I tried it the cutter would collapse on itself. This means you have to pry the cutter open with a large amount of force to counteract the magnets to get it to separate. This gets annoying after cutting dozens of sheets of drywall... Yes, sometimes it would work and I didnt have to do this but 99% of the time it wouldn't work.I didnt save any time with the device with all the time I had to spend to fix it!!!CONS:spent more time fixing the cutter than cutting with itheavyno guide on back to follow markeverytime the cutter collapses it dulls the cutter edgePros:when it worked, it did save time but the cuts at the end of the drywall were always off (since there was no rear guide)

Works but not necessary
OK here I am the Debbie Downer reviewer since all the other reviews are so positive. What I have found is that this works as advertised, but it's not necessarily easier overall, or a true replacemet, than simply using a utility knife with a proper drywall T-square. Good on 1/4 or 1/2 drywall, not so great on thicker fire resistant stuff. I have had the two halves snap together a couple of times on me (see other reviewers comments) and it's VERY HARD resetting them; and each time the blades get damaged. Also the blades are harder to find and pricier than standard utility baldes. All you really need is a deep score on the drywall face with a utility knife and you have no trouble separating the pieces. The good thing about this is that it cuts on both sides saving you the trouble of having to cut the brown backing paper. This could be handy for curved cuts or very long ones where you don't have a very long straight edge. For holes a jigaw works fine. So my review is based on the price vs. the utility gained. I am not sure it's worth it.

Worth every penny !
I bought this a few months ago. I never really thought it would (or could) work!!We restore old homes and do most of the work ourselves. And I HATE drywall! Really!! Cutting those 4x8 (or worse 4x12) sheets are no fun. We just finished the latest project and this tool is absolutely INCREDIBLE. While I bought extra blades (wheels) for it, I am still on the original blade after hanging over 75 sheets of drywall. This tool is now one of my favorites. I am NOT a professional drywall hanger. But I am fairly good at it. So if you are a do-it-your-selfer ... this is a must have tool. Cutting drywall is a snap. And the video on Youtube is accurate.FYI: Get the "Tajima TBYD-180 Drywall Rasp" while your at it. The two work hand-in-hand ...Wish I could give it 6-stars ...

Drwall tool
Cuts drywall quickly. Needs a flat side guide for precise cuts. Really strong magnets and could probaly hurt fingers. I hung thirty sheets and took my time. This tool was very useful. If the board gets moist like in high humidity does not cut so well, but thats because i took my time. Does beautiful curves. If cutting on the flat becareful of obstructions from saw horses. Bottom pops off without warning. Overall a really good tool.
